"It took a long time [for me] to get good at sewing. It takes practice before you can get a straight stitch and figure out how to make things. I started reconstructing clothing because it gave me a really good grasp of how things were made.
You cut it apart, see the seams, learn the shapes of things...that's how I learned to make things from scratch.
I didn't go to school for fashion. I have my bachelors degree in speech pathology. I was always sewing on the side and then it turned into something more when I graduated college in 2004.
But if I could turn back time I'd want to take a class, instead of four years of learning it on my own!"
