Many people can't think about vegetarianism and veganism without thinking of hippies and political activists. While thoughts of hemp and the scent of patchouli may drift along the edges of these lifestyle choices, there's a lot more to vegetarianism and veganism than belonging to a social clique.

There are many different ways to participate in being a vegan or vegetarian because many people have different ideas about how and when they want to restrict their diets and which foods do not mesh with the way they want to live.

So here's the deal...

Most people know that vegetarianism is about not eating meat, but there's a lot more to it than that. The definition of "meat" can vary from vegetarian to vegetarian, and the concept of "meat" is also closely connected to other products that come from animals. Is fish a meat? If I don't eat chicken, do I feel okay about eating eggs? These questions are just part of the reason why there are so many different types of vegetarians.

Not to mention the one question that usually comes before all the others--is being a vegetarian or vegan right for me? While we can't answer that question, we can provide you with some interesting points to think about. Read on to the next page to find out what those are.
