1. Stay calm
2. Pull over to the side off the road if possible.
3. Make sure everyone is safe, if someone is injured, call 911 immediately.
4. Call the police to make a report. (If you don't know the number, dial 911)
5. Gather the following things from your glove compartment: insurance cards, pen, notepad and disposable camera.
6. Don't admit fault to anyone, not the other driver and not the police. (Fault is for the insurance companies and their attorneys to determine.)
7. Stay calm, take a deep breath and then exchange information with the other driver.
8. Exchange insurance information. (Tip: keep two copies of your insurance card and give this to the other party)
9. Exchange personal information, name, address and phone numbers. (Tip: ask for their ID)
10. Take pictures of the accident. Use your cell phone if you do not have a disposable camera. If pulled off the road, try to take a picture of the site where the accident actually occurred.
11. If the police come to take a report, remember to stay calm. Do not lie, and tell the officer what happened.
12. That's it... go home and tell all your friends and family. If you can't drive home, the police officer will help you get a tow truck.
13. Call your insurance company and report the accident as soon as possible.
