"Gender: the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex."
--Miriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary

Gender. You've probably heard the word. After all, gender comes into play in your every day--like when you decide which restroom to use or which fitting room to enter (not to mention the clothes you decide to try on!).

But how do you know what gender you really are? Sure, you know what sex you are. But does sex always equal gender? Or is gender something more?

And maybe now you're thinking, "Why do I care?" Well, for one thing, gender is a huge part of who we are (obviously). It affects the people we hang out with (the people we make fun of), the personalities we exhibit, the way the media works--even the way our governments work. In short, gender is a part of every aspect of our lives.

This FYI will take you through the intricacies of the G word. We'll talk about the differences of gender vs. sex, how gender is stereotyped, the many different types of gender (there are way more than two...) and the age old debate of nature vs. nurture.
