Find out more. Go to friends of lulu.

Jessica Abel self-published her first comic book "Artbabe" by photocopying and hand-sewing each copy of the comic. Since then, she has published her graphic novel "La Perdida," among others.

Hilary B. Price is the creator of the nationally syndicated strip "Rhymes With Orange." At the age of 25, she was the youngest woman EVER to have a syndicated daily comic strip.

Junko Mizuno is a Japanese comic artist who also creates t-shirts and collectibles of her characters, which are strange sweet girls in dark-fairy-tale settings. Her comic book "Hell Babies" has a puffy glittery pink cover (oh yeah!), and inside the book is good too.

Ariel Schrag self-published her own autobiographical comics while she was still in high school, and continues to create comics today. Her books "Awkward", "Definition", "Potential" and "Likewise" are about her experiences as an awkward, insecure teenager coming out as a lesbian in high school.

Francoise Mouly is one of the co-creators of RAW magazine, an underground magazine from the 1980s that featured cutting edge comics.

Trina Robbins is a feminist comics creator who works at promoting other female comic creators through curating shows, publishing books and lecturing. She was one of the founders of the woman's comic anthology "Wimmin's Comix."

Phoebe Gloeckner began creating autobiographical comics as a teenager, and was part of the underground "comix" movement in the 1970s. Her work is serious, emotional and uses beautiful linework with very little color.

Sue Coe is an English artist whose political comics deals honestly with subjects like cruelty to animals and capitalism. She often participates in art fundraisers, and was most recently involved in a comic project called "9-11."

Rachel Nabors creates Manga comics centered around strong women characters like Rachel the Great and Olivia Bryce. There's also a smartass little cat named Tuna who seems to be Rachel's sarcastic alter-ego. Rachel is a gURL.com comix contributor.

Aline Kominsky-Crumb has been writing autobiographical comics since the 1960s as a form of therapy. She creates the comic "Dirty Laundry" with her husband and daughter, which is a real-life account of her family's, um, dirty laundry.

Lauren Weinstein creates surreal comics about everything from outer space to life in the suburbs. The stories are hilarious and the detailed line drawings are totally unique. Lauren is a gURL.com comix contributor.

Alison Bechdel has been making the strip "Dykes to Watch Out For" since the 1980s. The strip deals with life as a feminist and activist, and is syndicated in over 50 publications.
