Being a "girl dj"

My uncle is a dj and all of his dj friends are guys. What's it like working in such a male-dominated profession?
--kelly

It's true that the deejaying world is male-dominated, and sometimes it makes things difficult because occasionally people don't take female djs seriously or clubs are tentative to book a female dj for a gig because they've never heard a woman deejay before. But being a woman in a male-dominated field also makes you stronger and makes you work harder for what you what, and you end up with a strong sense of who you are and what you need to succeed. Being a female dj also sets you apart from the rest of the pack, and gives you a special perspective that male djs don't have. Women make great djs and there's no reason why being a girl should prevent you from trying something new and interesting.
