Tourette's is named after the doctor Georges Albert Edouard Brutus Gille de la Tourette (1857-1904), who first described and investigated tics he noticed in some of his patients. Unlike other doctors, he realized that the tics in Tourette's patients are different from the involuntary movements in patients with similar disorders.
The National Institute of Health estimates that 100,000 Americans have Tourette's Syndrome. Other disorders associated with Tourette's syndrome are: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), sleep disorders and learning disabilities.
