A few recent examples of human trafficking are:
- In 2006, a Nevada man was sentenced to life in prison for transporting two girls (ages 14 and 16) to Los Angeles and forcing them to work as prostitutes.
- In 2007, members of the Chinese Star Acrobats were charged with trafficking after police found nine performers being held against their will, five of whom were minors. They were only given a limited amount of food, kept under constant surveillance, worked without salary and were threatened with physical harm.
- In 2008, a top Hollywood lawyer (and his wife) was found guilty of abusive treatment of their Filipino maid. According to court documents, she was made to sleep on a dog bed, work 18-hour days and was only given three-day old food. If she tried to leave, her holders threatened to turn her into immigration authorities.
