Article Image Suicide is the third leading cause of death amongst people between the ages of 14-24. According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, experts believe that the stress, confusion and depression connected with adolescence, family, community and school changes are some reasons that teens attempt suicide. But there is no doubt that suicide is a growing problem. Over the last few decades, the suicide rate in young people has dramatically increased. From 1952-1994 suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled.

Although not all depressed people are suicidal, most suicidal people are depressed. Treatment of depression can help reduce the suicide risk in many people.
