Companies often lose money because of sexual harassment. This is because people don't work as hard; there is usually decreased job satisfaction; more workers quit; there can be high legal costs and people can develop a negative image of the company. When people know that harassment may be permitted, it can create a lack of trust and respect within the organization.
When sexual harassment occurs in schools, student grades usually fall, there is distrust and violence. In addition, since sexual harassment is not usually discussed openly in schools, students may not even realize when it occurs. They may think that inappropriate touching or behavior is just an uncomfortable part of life. When sexual harassment goes unreported it can become a part of the school culture and victims can feel too scared to speak up.
