A nose job, also called rhinoplasty, is a type of plastic surgery. It is performed either to improve function (such as easier breathing) or for appearance/cosmetic reasons. This surgery can also be used to help reconstruct the nose after an accident or to correct a birth defect.
Plastic surgeons can remove bone and/or cartilage, graft tissue from another part of the body or place synthetic material in the face. After the surgeon has preformed the surgery, he or she may pack the nose with cotton or place a splint on the nose, so that the shape holds and heals.
