Despite the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture, there is no medical agreement about whether it's biological or psychological factors that determine human sexual orientation. Those who support the biological theory believe a person's genetics (and exposure to certain hormones as a fetus) determines sexual orientation. Another, less popular theory, is that sexual orientation is the result of one's upbringing and environment. While nobody is entirely sure why some people are attracted to the same sex, many believe that attraction to an individual person and not their gender is what matters.
