Article Image Homosexuality isn't new. Historical figures like Socrates and Susan B. Anthony had sexual relationships with people of the same gender. However, society's attitudes towards homosexuality have changed throughout time. While many pre-modern societies didn't categorize people according to their sexual preference, today, sexual orientation is considered an important part of one's identity (and a controversial topic for many).

Evidence of homosexuality from ancient times can be found in cave paintings that feature same-sex couplings. The Kama Sutra, the sex manual of ancient India, also contains descriptions of same-sex couples. Other early literary documentation comes from Ancient Greece, where it was normal for men to have sexual relationships with both women and young men. One of the central plotlines in Homer's masterpiece The Iliad is about the love between two men.
