Artificial lubricants Some people cannot produce their own, natural lubrication, and/or would like less friction during sexual play; therefore a different method is available--store bought lubricants. Store bought lubricants, just like natural lubricants, are used to reduce friction within or around the vagina, anus or any other body part during masturbation and/or sex.
During masturbation, lubrication (or "lube") may be used in order to stimulate the clitoris or for the use of sex toys. Lube can be also be placed in the vagina or on the penis during sex to create less friction during sexual play.
There are three main types of lubricants: water, oil and silicon based liquids. Though the first application of lube was for medical reasons, it has now been more frequently adopted for sexual use. Anyone of any age can buy lubricant. It can be found at pharmacies and possibly local supermarkets. Popular brands include K-Y Jelly, Astroglide and YES Lubricant; all of which are water based.
