Warning Signs of BDD: While everyone worries about how they look, experts believe there are symptoms that specifically point to this disorder:
Obsessed with appearance: BDD sufferers spend a majority of their time talking about or criticizing their looks. Many sufferers spend hours in front of a mirror, while others avoid mirrors completely because they are too disturbed with what they see.
Trouble going about daily life: People with BDD are so obsessed with their looks that it interferes with daily responsibilities or activities. Many do not want to leave their homes or be around other people and have trouble concentrating on anything besides the way they look.
Withdrawn from friends and family: Body Dysmorphic Disorder can cause people to break ties with friends and family. If told that they "look fine," people with BDD may become angry or frustrated, convinced that they are being lied to. It may make them feel even more alone.
Generally depressed or anxious: People with BDD may possess a general feeling of anxiety or depression. They see no solution to their problem and approach everything with a sense of hopelessness.
