Who looks at it?
Although at first glance it may seem like pornography is a boys only club, many women also enjoy pornography. So why is it that so much pornography seems to be targeted to a male audience? The reason could be related to a societal double standard--sexual curiosity and drive are often encouraged in boys but discouraged in girls.
Other theories suggest that women are not turned on by pornography. However, this theory can't account for the recent influx of "porn for women," such as "Sweet Action" and "Nerve" magazines, as well as women-owned sex shops, such as Toys in Babeland. Furthermore, many women are known to indulge themselves in less taboo sexual media, such as steamy "bodice ripping" romance novels or art books depicting nude photography.
