What is it? Good question. Defining pornography isn't easy and its definition has been a source of controversy and debate for centuries. The American Heritage dictionary defines it as "Sexually explicit pictures, writing or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal." Pornography can take the form of photographs, movies, animations, magazines, stories, games and more.
Within the pornography genre, there are varying degrees of sexual explicitness: hardcore, softcore and erotica are just a few examples. You may hear pornography referred to as porn, porno, X-rated or graphic media, adult materials, dirty magazines/pictures, smut, skin flicks, stag films or even marital aids.
