While the hickey has become a bit of a modern culture icon, Oliver Kralhein, known by friends as "Dr. Suck," has been studying hickeys since 1965 and believes they have been around "since the dawn of time."

Kralhein can trace hickeys back to the ancient Egyptians, when a man pulled a leech off his arm and discovered his village's sacred sign in his skin. He became the king of his village and had a harem of 300 women.
