Treatment depends on what stage the cancer is in when it's discovered. The most common methods are surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In surgery, part of the cervical tissue may be removed, or in some cases, a hysterectomy may be necessary. In a hysterectomy, the uterus and cervix have to be completely removed. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill the cancer cells. Chemotherapy uses drugs (either through the mouth or injected in to veins or muscles) to kill cancerous cells.
