Occasionally, genital warts are a symptom of HPV, but more often than not, HPV has no symptoms, especially in the early stages. This is another reason why it's important to have regular pap tests. HPV does not always lead to cancer and it frequently goes away on its own, but only a doctor can tell what strain of HPV you have and what the best course of action is.
