Passing: this term refers to a transgender person's ability to "pass" as his or her desired gender. Passing successfully is not just about cross-dressing, since people's mannerisms and behaviors can also be very revealing.
Transition: this term refers to the process of going from one gender to another. For a transsexual person, this usually involves cross-dressing and possible hormone therapy. Transgender people, unlike transsexuals, do not typically get sex-reassignment surgery.
Androgyny: this is a concept, which describes someone (or something), that is not clearly identifiable as male or female. You might hear a boyish girl or a feminine-looking guy being described as androgynous, but this does not mean that they are transgender.
