by Carolyn Costin (McGraw Hill, 1999) A fairly comprehensive guide to the causes, treatments and prevention of a range of eating disorders.

Fat Is a Feminist Issue
by Susie Orbach (Berkeley Publishing Group). The classic book examining the role food plays in women's lives.

Life-Size
by Jenefer Shute (Avon). A harrowing novel about a girl suffering from anorexia and almost starving herself to death.

My Sister's Bones
by Cathi Hanauer (Dell Books). A novel about a few months in the life of a girl who is coming of age just as her beautiful older sister begins to succumb to anorexia.

Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia
by Marya Hornbacher (HarperCollins Publishers). A passionate and eloquent account of a young woman's near-death self-starvation.



The National Eating Disorder Associationsupports eating disorders awareness week. This site provides information ranging from characteristics and causes of eating disorders to eating disorder prevention. It includes resources for all those affected by eating disorders; family, friends, teachers, coaches, and the victims themselves.
