These are the OVARIES, which produce eggs
(germ cells) and female hormones (estrogen,
progesterone and several others). Each ovary
is about the size and shape of an unshelled
almond, and is located about four or five inches
below your waist on either side of the
uterus.
OVULATION is what happens every month when
your ovaries release an egg. Some women feel
a twinge or pain in their lower back or
abdomen during ovulation. Afterwards, the
released egg is swept into the fallopian
tubes and begins its several-day journey to
the uterus, where it disintegrates if it
has not been fertilized.
