There isn’t a right or wrong way to enjoy your 3 day weekend. You can spend all day unwinding on the internet or do a little bit of traveling. Or you can even do both and end up bored out of your mind like GIF Girl.

I don’t wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy…but I deffo wake up past noon.

And while I don’t brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack, I’m definitely not brushing my hair.

Then I check the fridge for the millionth time, as if food will appear the more I look at it…

And then I refresh Tumblr for the billiionth time…

I’m left wondering if I should actually do something awesome with my weekend. Like go outside and get some sunlight.

Interact with other human beings?

Take a walk?

So I go on Tumblr and ask my followers what they think I should do. 

Probably not the best question to ask them. Honestly.

But then thereis a moment of clarity. I remember that I’m young and I should be going out living life. YOLO??? What about going to a party? I love parties! Remember that last party when I–

Ok, maybe I should just aim for putting on some actual clothes today at the very least. That’s a good start.

But as soon as I garner up the motivation to actually leave my bed–I put on pants!–my parents decide that this would be the perfect time to visit a family friend for their annual Memorial Day BBQ.

That’s a 3 hour car ride…

Why did I want to leave the house, again?

Well, I don’t have a choice on the matter anyway so I might as well suck it up.

So I’m stuck at our family friend’s house with their weird 14-year-old son who says “epic fail” too much for comfort. Their house smells like cats and Mr. Whatshisface is not as good at grilling as he claims. I’d rather eat the kitty litter than that burger.

But it get’s worst. As if all of that isn’t bad enough…their wifi isn’t working.

So I give up. I give in and surrender myself to another boring 3 day weekend. At least the next holiday is summer vacation. MY BODY IS READY.

Sure, there are times when I’d rather lay on the couch all day and binge-watch episodes of Scandal while eating a whole bag of Cheetos (I’ve totally never done this ever). But when I tell a friend I’ll hang out with them, I always follow through. Because friendship! There’s really nothing that gets under my skin more than a friend who blows you off.

And yet I still have those friends. I have this one friend who I love to death, but recently she’s become the biggest flake ever. It’s really, really getting on my nerves. We’re really close, but lately every time we make plans to hang out, she comes up with a last minute excuse to back out. And usually I’ll see on Instagram or Twitter that she’s out with another friend!

If you don’t want to hang out, then don’t make plans! It’s that easy. I’d much rather know beforehand so I can plan to do something with someone else. It’s so annoying! And if you’re going to flake on a friend, don’t put it on social media where they can see it.

I think it’s really tough on me because I often go out of my way to do things for this friend, but she can’t even bother to have lunch with me or text me back.

And she doesn’t just break lunch and dinner dates. She avoids texts and phone calls even when I have something really important to talk about. I think I’ve been trying to keep the friendship in tact because I don’t want to go through another friend breakup, but it might be time to let it go.

The hardest part about dealing with a flaky friend is that it’s so difficult to talk to them about it. How can you talk to someone who’s become a total pro at avoiding you? It’s virtually impossible! I’ve called and texted. I’ve even Facebook messaged her! All with no luck. I don’t know what there is to do except talk to my friend and let her know how hurtful her actions have been.

One of my friends is in a relationship and has literally fallen off the planet. When they first started dating, we still hung out a lot. But the movie nights and hang out seshes got more and more infrequent the longer they were dating.

Fast forward to a year later, and she ignores every text and phone call I send her way. And it’s not just me. She’s ignoring everyone in our friend group. We didn’t have a falling out or anything like that. No drama. She’s just completely immersed herself in her relationship.

And I can see that she’s tweeting and Instagramming. I know she has her phone and her number hasn’t changed. She always tweets about her boyfriend and all of the things they do together, which means that she has abandoned all of her friends for her boyfriend.

Part of me gets it because I was in a relationship where my friends hated my boyfriend, and he didn’t want to hang out with them either. So I ended up spending a lot more time with him. But I would make time for my friends and never ignored their calls or texts.

It hurts knowing that she’s willing to toss our friendship aside just like that without an explanation. And it’s just really frustrating, and I can’t deal with another friend breakup! And how can I talk to her about this if she won’t talk to me? What am I supposed to do?

It's Okay To Be Jealous

Beating yourself up about being jealous is only going to make you feel worse about yourself, which ends up feeding into jealousy. The first step is to know the feeling is okay. Trying to convince yourself you aren't jealous can be exhausting and not let you get on a path to addressing why you may feel this way. You don't need to do it publicly (you don't want to hurt people's feelings), but have a little heart-to-heart with yourself where you acknowledge these feelings are valid.

Remind Yourself Why You're Great...

The biggest reason I get jealous is because I see great things happening to my friends and I have a hard time seeing what is going great for me. When you feel jealous, be proactive and write down all the things you're lucky to have done and you're grateful for. Let these be a reminder that yes, you're kind of jealous of your friend right now, but you've been able to have and experience a lot of cool things (that honestly other people are probably jealous of).

We're all going to get jealous from time to time, but if you continually work to build up your self-confidence, the little things won't make you so jealous. Don't wait until you already feel jealous to keep track of the things you feel lucky to have in your life or the reasons why you are a great person. When you're standing on the outside of a celebration, it's a lot easier to seethe with jealousy over a friend's accomplishment. However, when you involve yourself in the celebration, you get to see how excited your friend is and it becomes clear how much it means to her. That can help get rid of some of that, "It's so unfair!" you may be feeling. Overall, sharing in the joy your friend feels can help keep you from getting caught up in the jealousy that builds up when you're processing it alone.

Stop Badmouthing

While you should allow yourself to feel jealous, the more you dwell on it, the more your jealousy is going to eat away at you. Using your jealous feelings as a reason to badmouth or vent about a friend's accomplishment or situation isn't good and it can easily make their way back to that friend and do real damage. If you do need to talk it out, just be sure to do it in a safe way, like with a parent or counselor. Otherwise, start trying to occupy your mind with other things so that jealousy can wither away.

Find A Solution

Sometimes we're going to get jealous for no concrete reason. Other times, you can pinpoint why you feel this way and work toward a solution. Are you jealous because your friend put herself out there while you tend to be a little more shy? Let your jealousy motivate you to work toward your own goal - in this case, maybe trying to take some more positive risks. Once you find your own passion and create new opportunities for yourself, what happens to other people will begin to be something you don't take so personally.

This is sometimes the hardest step because we want the other person to acknowledge their wrongdoings. Saying sorry when we feel we are right can be tough, and saying it first can be even tougher. Still, it's the mature thing to do, especially if you want to keep this friendship going. It goes a long way to show your maturity, as well. Plus, who knows - you opening up first could give your friend the push she needs to realize how she was actually in the wrong.

Are You At Fault At All?

Sometimes even when we're mostly right, there's a little mistake we can apologize for. Maybe your friend shouldn't have ditched your plans unexpectedly, but you probably still shouldn't have sent that passive-aggressive text message after the fact. If you can at least pinpoint something that you do feel badly about, it will allow you to make a sincere apology without feeling pressure to say something you don't really mean.

Try Writing A Letter

Sometimes when we don't 100% want to apologize, even when we try to keep it simple we can give ourselves away. In these cases, a letter might be a good way to go. It's more personal than something like a text, but it also allows you to draft up what you want to say than get frustrated in the moment when you're apologizing when you think you shouldn't have to be. It's just a way to create a little buffer to apologize on your own terms in a way that isn't rude.

Focus On Feelings

Just because your friend is upset with you for a reason that's not your fault, you still probably don't like seeing her so sad. Focus on that aspect in your apology. Talk about how you hate seeing her like this and you want to work through it. It's another way to not have to take on the whole blame of the situation, but still show you're sorry that she's been having a hard time and that you're committed to both of you getting through this.

Don't Over Do It

If you choose to apologize in person, don't treat this apology like an audition for the school play by turning on fake tears or delivering really dramatic lines. In truth, that will probably make it more obvious that you're kind of trying to fake it. Instead, just be simple and direct - not to the point where you're short with your friend, but stay on track to deliver your "sorry" without all the meaningless bells and whistles.

You Don't Have To Grovel

Similarly to not over-doing it, you can still apologize without sacrificing your self-respect. I know I get upset about apologizing for things that aren't always my fault, but if I can present myself in a confident, strong way, at least I don't feel like I am being pushed around. I am choosing to apologize, not feeling forced to. If you really are not in the wrong, you don't need to grovel or beg for forgiveness. It'll end up making you feel crummy and that's unfair. Just try to be sincere, but don't lose yourself.

Move On

Don't hold it over your friend's head that you were the one to graciously apologize when you didn't really have to. The point of apologizing is to achieve forgiveness and closure, so once you do it, let that be the end of it. Post-apology, it should no longer matters who was right or wrong. If you're going to dwell on it forever than it sounds like it was never that important to work through it with you to begin with.

All that aside, if you find yourself constantly apologizing to a friend and trying to fix things for the sake of your friendship, it may be a sign that she's taking advantage of you. Everyone makes mistakes with friends, but there's a difference between it happening once in a while and you constantly apologizing even when your friend is crummy. If your gut is really feels you did nothing wrong, sometimes you just have to trust that. Gauge it for yourself or seek out an adult for another opinion on your specific situation.
