It’s a little confusing, because it doesn’t actually mean that PMS is not a real disease. What it means is that, in the words of one Jezebel writer, women are “being told that they have PMS as a sort of convenient excuse for their moods, which aren’t particularly agreeable.”

Um, I don’t know about you girls, but for me, PMS has always been a very real syndrome that has nothing to do with me making excuses for my moody behavior. While I can completely understand how it can be used as an easy out, I know it can always be something you can’t control. I’ve dealt with so many horrible PMS symptoms that are exhausting. So, here are 10 ways you can tell I’m not faking my PMS. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to relate:

Boobs are like a never-ending science project and we mark their progress over the years in a mental notebook while wearing a smile or a frown. Most people are a little nervous the first time they get naked with someone else, but are you actually afraid to be naked? There’s actually a legitimate phobia for that. (A phobia is different from a regular fear in that an all-out phobia is usually irrational and interferes with your daily life and functioning.) If you’re afraid of being naked–not just uncomfortable being naked in front of someone else–you may have gymnophobia.

Experts say phobias, including gymnophobia, often develop after a bad experience–for example, you might get arachnophobia after being bitten by a spider. Similarly, if you have a bad experience with nudity, like getting made fun of in the locker room at school, it can make you afraid to be naked in general.

What’s more, people who are afraid to be naked usually suffer from other anxiety and/or body image issues–which makes a lot of sense, right? Specifically, people who suffer from anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) may have issues stripping down because of the obsessive thoughts that come along with it.

One doc explained it thusly: “[It’s] more a general anxiety of their own body image as a comparative basis. We are an increasingly obese nation so the comparison could be stressful, anxiety producing, negative for one’s self-concept and could affect one’s own willingness to expose one’s self in privacy in a relationship.”

Translation? People with gymnophobia who are afraid to be naked are constantly worried about measuring up to everyone else, whether those people are real or media images of perfection.

If you think you’re legit afraid to be naked to the point of having gymnophobia? Don’t panic! There are ways to correct it. Experts recommend that you take small steps–starting with walking around and getting comfortable in just your skivvies, then moving forward from there.

But I do love my boobs because well, they’re great! I’ve never been fitted for a bra before, but we went to an event at Intimacy last night to peruse some of their new selections. They were offering free fittings, and I figured why not?

By taking just one look at me, my fitting stylist said I was wearing the wrong size and chuckled a little at how tight I had to make my band and straps just to stay on. Instead of using a measuring tape, the stylists at Intimacy use a holistic method where they determine everything by touch. You’d think it would be awkward with someone poking your boobs, but it wasn’t at all.

My stylist looked at my rib cage and shoulders and felt where my boobs were sitting in the bra I was wearing. After literally 1 minute, she said “Yup, you’re definitely in the wrong bra! I’ll be back.”

She came back with a ton of gorgeous bras. Like the prettiest bras I’ve ever seen! She carefully put me into each one and the difference was absolutely shocking. I mean, I have never felt so comfortable in a bra before. And my boobs have never looked so great! I immediately felt a relief in my back and shoulders, and I was standing up super straight.

I was amazed. When I asked what the size was, my jaw dropped. I went down two band sizes and up two cup sizes. I wanted to buy every single bra she put on me!

I didn’t make a purchase last night because the bras were super fancy and way above my budget, but now I know what size I should be looking for. When I put my bra on this morning I actually groaned because it was so uncomfortable compared the bras I tried on last night.

I seriously want all of you to go get professionally fitted like immediately. Don’t do it for me. Do it for your boobs.

Have you ever waxed your bikini line only to find tons of painful, itchy little bumps the next day? What about tiny, raised dark spots on your legs after shaving? Well, you probably had ingrown hair.

Ingrown hair is hair that grows back into the skin after shaving, tweezing, waxing, or electrolysis. Girls tend to get ingrown hairs on their legs, armpits, and pubic area.

So here’s what happens: After shaving, your hair is broken off unevenly. As the hair grows back, it curls into the skin. The results vary from raised pus-filled bumps to skin darkening at the follicle (hair) site. Sometimes you can easily see the hair that’s causing the problem. Ingrown hairs can become infected, which causes inflammation and irritation. This sounds familiar if you’ve ever had razor burn after shaving your bikini line.

Anyone can develop ingrown hairs, but people with curly or coarse hair are more susceptible  That means if you’re Black or Latina, you may be at higher risk. You’re also at risk if you wear tight clothing like tight pants or tights. While ingrown hairs aren’t dangerous, they can be annoying and embarrassing. They can disappear on their own, but if it becomes infected it can leave a permanent scar.

So if you have ingrown hairs, you probably want to know how to get rid of them. First things first: Don’t carelessly pick at it. Seriously, don’t. I’ve had to learn this the hard way and it only resulted in skin discoloration.

Ingrown hairs can be treated in a number of ways. Gentle exfoliation of the site of the ingrown hair will help remove dead skin cells, dirt, or oils that are trapping the hair into the skin. Do this twice a day to encourage the hair to break the surface of your skin. You can also apply a warm washcloth to the ingrown hair. The warmth will encourage the skin to loosen up and allow the ingrown hair to break the surface of the skin. Applying alcohol or acid based topical solutions, like salicilic acid or benzoyl peroxide, can also treat an ingrown hair. If those two ingredients sound familiar, you’ve likely seen them used as a leading ingredient in acne soaps and medication.
