Do you have to feel like you have to pee all of the time? Does it seem like every period of school your bladder is about to burst when you still have 20 minutes left in class? Does it seem like you spend most of your time going to the bathroom? If it seems like the only thing that you’re doing is peeing, you might be wondering what’s the cause of it all and whether it’s normal.
There are actually a few different reasons that could explain why you have to frequently urinate. A number of them could actually apply to you. Some could be lifestyle choices while others could just be your body. And you don’t need to panic because they’re not necessarily bad things.
Of course, if you find that you have to pee so frequently that it’s actually impacting your life, it’s probably a good idea to speak to your doctor so he/she can figure out what’s going on for sure and look at some possible solutions. To get you started, here are seven possible reasons why you have to pee all the time.
You're Very NervousNerves don't just wreak havoc on our brains and vocal boxes; they can mess with our bodies in a lot of interesting ways. And that includes peeing. When we're nervous, our bodies get an increase of adrenaline and go into *fight or flight mode.* Even if you know that your bladder is empty, you might find yourself considering a toilet break before a big test or public speech because of the surge in adrenaline. You Have A UTIIf you find that you suddenly have to pee a lot more than you used to, an underlying issue could be the cause. One possible thing is that you have a urinary tract infection, aka UTI. If you think you might have a UTI, be aware of other symptoms including burning when peeing, changes in smell and color of urine, chills or fever, lower abdomen pain, and feeling tired. You Have A Small BladderSome people have big boobs while others have small ones. Similarly, some people have big bladders while others have small ones. Your friends might have large bladders that rival a camel's and never have to pee. On the other hand, you might have a smaller one which would explain why you need to go to the bathroom a lot more. You Have An Overactive BladderYes, bladders can be overactive along with being small. If you have to pee more than eight times a day, you could fall into the category. An overactive bladder is not necessarily something you're born with. Prevention points out that an overactive bladder is something you might experience as you get older. Sometimes, it's linked to other issues like back problems. Instagram/_decorita_
You're Freezing Your Butt OffYou've probably heard about the old sleepover trick about putting someone's hand in hot water to make them go pee. Well, it's actually the cold that could be making you pee. The body is a complex system. Prevention explains that when we're cold, our body restricts blood vessels in the extremities, i.e. feet and hands, and brings blood to the core in an attempt to regulate our temperature. Our blood pressure goes up so our bodies try to normalize it by getting rid of excess fluids. Yup, that means peeing. Who knew? Instagram/emmamanicolo
You're Taking Certain MedicationsHere's another reason why you should pay attention to all of the side effects in fine print on medications you're taking. The pills might let you know that they cause frequent urination. Pills for high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety can impact how frequently you have to pee. That being said, it's still worth discussing side effects of any medication with your doctor. Instagram/sarahxbats
You're Drinking Too MuchIt's generally recommended that you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day, although, some others suggest much more. If you're drinking a lot it's understandable that you're going to have to pee more. This might seem obvious, but sometimes people don't realize how much they're drinking. If you're a coffee addict, that could also explain you need to urinate more. Instagram/stephanieseege
