Okay, we’re not technically into summer yet. But, the weather is hot enough to make us think that it’s summer. What’s more, we already had the unofficial start of summer, aka Memorial Day, and your wardrobe is probably pure summer vibes.

I’ve got you covered. Want to try some new prints and colors? There are plenty of options. Want to try something a bit different? You’ve come to the right place.

Remember, part of the fun of fashion is playing around and expressing your individual tastes. Trends are a great way to do that. Just remember that there are no rules that you *must* follow them. Think of them as helpful guidelines that you can take what you want from them. Here are 17 fashion trends that are #trending for summer 2018.

1. Bright Yellow

If you love bold colors, then you’ll be happy to know that sunny yellow is one of the hottest shades of the season. Add a pop of color via your shoes or hat, or go bold and wear the color from head to toe.

2. Lucite Jewelry

Lucite is basically just a fancy (trademarked) name for clear plastic. As long as you’re rocking some form of clear plastic jewelry, it counts. FYI: That includes colored plastics.

3. Vinyl Skirts

Yeah, vinyl might not be the coolest fabric to wear in the summer, but it has proven to be a very trendy style. At least with a vinyl mini skirt, you can stay cool. Try the piece when you’re going out or for a hot date.

4. Tiny Sunglasses

I’ve previously talked about tiny sunglasses. They’re not going anywhere. The small style is the common theme, but get creative with different shapes.

5. Micro Bags

To go along with tiny sunglasses, we have small bags, obviously. They’re super cute but be aware that if you’re a pack rat, you will seriously need to streamline your “necessities.”

6. Puffs Sleeves

If you’re a lover of the 1980s, then you will be pleased to know puff sleeves are trending. If you’re not keen on the 80s, note that there are a range of voluminous sleeve options and some of them actually look very modern.

7. Pastels

Pastels are a classic for spring, but the look is also continuing into summer. Try a soft shade instead of you usual brights. Better yet, mix them together.

8. Mini Skirts

Denim mini skirts have long been a summer staple, but it’s about mini skirts of any kind with season. Plaid? Yup. Vinyl? Yup, talked about that. Polka dot? Yup. If it has a short hemline, try it out instead of your usual jean shorts.

9. Fanny Packs

Totally got that Friday feeling??

Fanny packs, bum bags, call them what you want. All you need to know is there’s no ignoring them. They’re popping up everywhere with celebrities showing a strong appreciation to them. Wear one around your waist, through your belt loops, or slung across your shoulders. Just wear one.

10. Clear Fabrics

Oh look, aliens are here ? #ootd

We’ve got vinyl, but we’ve also got clear vinyl. On days when it’s raining outside, try a popular clear vinyl trench so you can still show off your outfit underneath. If you’re worried about sweat, try accessories with transparent fabrics. Shoes would also work.

11. Chunky Sneakers

Dad sneakers, grandpa sweaters, oversized sneakers, “ugly” shoes. They’re another trend that has a few different names. What you need to know is that you should be wearing them.

12. Camo Print

Camo isn’t something that we’ve seen in a while, but it’s back. There’s no need to limit yourself to a pair of green camo pants. If you want to, there’s nothing wrong with that. I encourage you to get creative and try other colors and styles like camo shorts, tank tops, and even bags.

13. Straw Bags

Speaking of bags, straw bags are having a moment. They might look out of place in the winter, they are perfect for summer. Play up the summer vibes with breezy dresses.

14. Statement Earrings

Pull that hair back and show off a pair of statement earrings. It’s up to you how big you want to go. Oversized studs like these are great, but you could take it to the next level and try a dangling pair of earrings that grazes your shoulders. Go with whatever your earlobes can handle.

15. Polka Dots

Who doesn’t love polka dots? You’ll be happy to hear that the classic fabric is as popular for spring as floral prints. Embrace dots big and small and in all colors. Remember, you can never go wrong with a Minnie Mouse-inspired look.

16. Short Suits

Don’t ignore me just because I’ve said the word “suit.”  I get suits have a stuffy reputation and are considered the piece grownups *have to wear* to work. That’s not the case with short suits. They’re really fun — especially when you wear one in a bright color — and they are perfect for brunches, dates, and more.

17. Cutout One-Piece Swimsuits

I couldn’t forget about swimsuit trends as it is summer. One-piece bathing suits are giving bikinis a run for their money. Out of all of the styles, the look that’s getting the most love is the cutout one-piece, particularly with the cut-out on the stomach.
