Trust is a big thing in relationships. Like, really big. If you don’t have trust, you don’t have much else. I’m not trying to insult your relationship. I’m just trying to highlight the importance of trust.
Some people are naturally trusting whereas others are less trusting, and it takes people longer to earn their trust. There’s no right or wrong way to be. There are pros and cons to each one of them. If you consider yourself to be more of the latter, you might come to a point where you have difficulty trusting bae in your relationship. And you might worry that it’s going to hurt things between you.
If bae has done something to make you question your trust, it’s understandable that you’re having some troubles. If your significant other hasn’t done anything, things might be more challenging, but you can work on it. Here is what to do if you had difficulty trusting bae.
Think About Whether You're Bringing Past Experiences Into ItIf your SO hasn't done anything wrong, consider whether you're not being as trusting to bae because of something that went down in the past. Did an ex ever do something to make you question your trust? What about your friends or family? All it takes is to be burned once by someone to be become less trusting of everyone else. Try To Decide Whether It's You Or BaeIf no one has done anything like cheated or had a big indiscretion, you might not be able to pin down this one. But, it can be helpful to think about whether it's your personal beliefs, bae's actions, or a combination of everything that is impacting your trust. Maybe, bae is being shady and your negative experiences in the past are making you keep your guard up. Image source: Getty
Consider Admitting Your Feelings To BaeHonesty is another biggie in relationships. If you're having trouble trusting bae, it could be worthwhile letting him/her know. If your SO thought you were being reserved and he/she wasn't sure why, your comments will provide insight. Hopefully, you can work together to figure out ways bae can earn your trust. Don't Feel Pressure To Rush ThingsDo not let any pressure impact you from making a rash decision. I'm including the fear of losing bae in that. If you are too trusting too soon, you could end up regretting your decision which will lead to just as many problems. Take things at your speed. Remember, it's you who is in control of your trust and you're an equal partner in this relationship. Image source: Getty
Let Bae Earn Your Trust SlowlyIf you want to be more trusting, open up slowly. You could tell bae one of your secrets only your friend knows then take it from there. When you feel more confident, you can try expressing something else. Encourage bae to reciprocate as this is a two-sided relationship. Image source: Getty
Think About The Pros And Cons Of Being More TrustingSome people recommend writing out lists when they have a problem and don't know what to do. That could be helpful in this situation. Of course, you don't need to physically list things if you don't want to. Think about the good and bad of being more trusting. Next, consider the pros and cons of not being trusting. It should help you justify your decisions. Image source: Getty
Go With Your Gut And Your HeartAt the end of the day, it's your decision how trusting you want to be. There are no right or wrong answers. There are only things you will feel comfortable with and things you won't. If you're unsure what to do, listen to your heart and gut, and go with those answers. If you feel confident in your decision, it's likely a good one. Image source: Getty
