The 13 Biggest Beauty Trends For 2018 You’ll Want To Try ASAP

The end of the year is when we do a lot of reflecting. We think about the good, the bad, and the ugly from the last 12 months, and often make New Year’s resolutions based on our thoughts. I’m all for nostalgia, but I also like to look forward to the future. I’m especially interested in seeing what the fashion and beauty world will have in store in the new year.

We cannot predict the future with most things in life, but it’s often possible to predict upcoming trends. (There are actually specific companies dedicated to doing it.) Even without a team of researchers, we can still see what things have been big in 2017 and what ones will likely continue as we ring in the new year.

When it comes to beauty, the runways, red carpet, and social media often give us a good idea of what looks are going to stay #trending. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to be more experimental with your beauty look, you might want to consider trying out some of these looks. Get those makeup kits ready and scroll down to see the beauty trends that are going to be huge in 2018:

1. Lip Gloss

If you’re anti-lip gloss, you might want to consider changing your stance, because glossy lips are here to stay through the next year. Don’t worry, the latest formulas aren’t sticky or gluey like older versions.

2. Super-Long Hair

If you joined the bob club or you shaved your head, you might want to start growing your hair now if you want to participate in the long hair trend. After a few years of shorter hairstyles and lob mania, extra-long lengths are making a comeback. If you want Rapunzel-like hair, but only have a few inches of length, extensions and wigs are options.

3. Glossy Lids

I already talked about glossy lips, now I’m going to talk about glossy lids. A dewy finish on the eye courtesy of an eye gloss is a modern look. It’s also a fun change from the usual matte and glitter shadows. No, eye glosses aren’t sticky. They’re so light you probably won’t even feel them on your eyelids.

4. Embracing Curls

If you have curls, it’s about time you embrace them. One over-arching theme of beauty has been embracing your uniqueness. The curly hair trend goes along with that. Whether you have kinky coils, spirals, or tousled waves, put down the flat iron and show those curls off. If you don’t have naturally curly hair, you can get involved, too, with the help of a curling iron.

5. Everything Glitter

If you’re a lover of sparkle, you’ll be very happy to hear about this one. I know that I am. Makeup companies are releasing more products with next-level shimmering finishes to help us achieve a holographic unicorn look.

6. Cut Crease Makeup

Cut crease makeup is where the crease is enhanced with a contrasting eyeshadow or even eyeliner. It’s different from a smokey eye because the lines are normally crisp as opposed to blended. Cut crease makeup has a 1960’s mod vibe, but modern eyeshadow colors and textures have made it a new favorite among beauty influencers.

7. Geometric Nails

We cannot forget about nails. If you’re confused about what exactly a geometric mani is, think about different shapes and lines, or take inspiration from fashion. There are actually a lot of different looks. It’s also about embracing nail art and thinking about manicures beyond being one color.

8. Metallic Hair Colors

Did you think that rainbow hair was going to go away? Nah. If you’re obsessed with all of the latest hair colors, you might have seen more and more metallic hair colors online. Expect to see the technique becoming popular and more options for us to try it at home.

9. Slicked Hair

I used to think of slicked hair as something that looked cool on the red carpet, but it didn’t seem to work in real life. That is changing thanks to more wearable wet-look hairstyles. The look is achieved with gel so it could be worn all year, but it’s very effective in the warmer months thanks to its frizz-fighting effect.

10. Ultra Violet

I already talked about how ultra violet is going to be a big thing in fashion. It’s pretty much taking over everywhere, including beauty, given that it’s the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year. It looks pretty as an eyeshadow, liner, lip gloss, or even hair color so don’t be afraid to play around with it.

11. Bold Lashes

Eyelashes might be small, but we sure spend a lot of time thinking about them. Given the number of false eyelashes launching, expect to see even more of a focus on long, flirty lashes. Don’t forget about next-level lashes using colored mascaras or embellishment. Start scrolling through Instagram now for some inspo.

12. Graphic Eyeshadow

We think about eyeshadow mostly in terms of colors and finishes, but what about shape? That’s where the graphic eyeshadow trend comes in. It started on the runways with makeup artists playing around with different eyeshadow placements. There are wearable ways to adopt the trend like wearing color on the inner corners of the eye, or using with underliner.

13. Bright Eyeshadow

Yeah, eyeshadow is having a moment. In addition to bold shapes, neon eyeshadow colors are whether it’s at. I know it might seem intimidating AF if you always wear beige eyeshadow, but just a dab of a saturated shadow can work.
