Isn’t it a little weird how everything just gets darker this time of year? It’s dark outside, dark reds and browns are the go-to color to wear, and your soul feels like it’s growing darker every day. JK about that last one. But you know what I mean, right? As fall and winter creeps up on us, everything feels a little different. And we need to adjust to that, especially when it comes to your makeup looks.
Obviously, you can wear any type of makeup look any time of year, but fall is the best time to rock dark tones and colors. I’ve never been a huge fan of dark eye makeup, so I always go for a dark lip color. And that takes a little more effort than you might think. As easy at it would be to just run into a Sephora and grab a berry lipstick, you’re going to need to work a little harder than that. You want to pick out the right one, know how to wear it and keep it on all night. It’s pretty high maintenance, but I have some tips on how you can rock some dark lipstick this season. Use Your Skin Color As A Guide
You want to refer to your undertones when picking out a dark lipstick. Girls with cool undertones should pick warmer toned lipstick, while girls with warm undertones should pick cool tones. This will create a flattering look that you will rock. If you need help picking out a color, check out this chart. Image Source: Getty
Pick Matte Or Glossy
You're going to want to decide what type of color to wear, depending on what you're doing. If you're just heading to work or school, you should stick with a lowkey matte color. If you're having a girls night, don't be afraid to go bold and try a glossy color. Image Source: Getty
Use A Lip Brush
Let's be real: putting on lipstick can be messy, especially if you're working with a dark color. Try a lipstick with a brush or wand in order to get better precision when applying. Image Source: Getty
This is important when applying any shade of lipstick, but I thought I would mention it. As winter approaches, it will be hard to avoid chapped lips. Before you apply lipstick, you're going to want to exfoliate. This will get any dead skin off your lips and make them lipstick-ready. Bliss Lip Scrub, $18
In order to make your dark color more vibrant, you're going to want to do add a primer. It will help your color stay and last all night, so you can rock those dark lips all day/night. Mac Lip Primer, $18
Line Your Lips
This is something that people often overlook, but lining your lips is pretty important, especially when you're wearing a darker color. You're going to want to make sure that your lip color doesn't bleed onto the rest of your skin. Lining your lips will help you prevent that, and keep your lips looking clean and defined. Go Light On The Eye Makeup
If you're going to wear a dark lip, you're going to want to go easy on your eye makeup. You don't want one look to overpower the other! Keep it minimal when it comes to your eye makeup so that your lips will stand out. Image Source: Getty
