We’ve all had those days. You know, the ones where you oversleep, don’t wash your hair, have a massive pimple (or two, or six) right on the most visible part of your forehead, and, to top it off, the first thing you see when you open Instagram is one of those conventionally, seemingly naturally gorgeous bloggers you follow with high cheekbones, perfect eyebrows, and poreless, flawless skin. It’s enough to make anyone feel a little–or a lot–ugly.
Of course, if you have been keeping up with your feminist literature, you probably already know that the ability to be conventionally “pretty” is far from the most important thing in the world. But it’s hard not to internalize the message promoted by much of popular media that girls only have worth if they bear a specific kind of physical attractiveness. Your outside appearance is one of the least important things about you!
But it’s also okay if not feeling like a glowy, gorgeous goddess all the time makes you feel a little bit sad. Trust me! I definitely know this–and I also know that you’re not alone in your moments of self-doubt. So, check out these Tumblr posts that will make you laugh out loud if, sometimes, you feel just a little ugly:
