7 Tips For Having Sex When You Live With Roommates

At some point in your life, you will live with other people. When you go to college, you will probably have a roommate, which will be an awesome experience! You get to learn how to live with others and experience that “no parents, not rules” lifestyle. And, along with those freedoms, you also get your own place to do what you want. Maybe you want to have sex! Good for you. Sex is awesome. But…it can be easy to forget that it’s not just YOUR space, it’s a shared space you have with your roommate. So, having sex when your roommates around can get tricky.

It’s obviously not impossible to get it on when people are around, but there are some basic rules you need to follow. You don’t was to be disrespectful, but you also want to be able to have fun and explore your sexuality. I know it can be hard, especially when you’re living in a tiny room or apartment with others. It’s okay, there are ways to make yourself AND your roommates happy. So, if you’re in college right now, or living with a roommate, take a look at these important tips for having sex when you live with roommates.


Text Your Roommate Before Bringing Someone Home

If you're bringing home a bae, don't make it a surprise for your roommate. Be sure to let them know ahead of time. If you can, the more time you give them the better.

Don't Do It In Shared Spaces

Whether you live in a two person room, or an apartment, don't have sex on common spaces, like the kitchen floor. Just...don't. It's not fair to your roommates, and it will be VERY awkward if anyone walks in.

Don't Do It In The Same Room As Your Roommate

If you share one room with someone, please PLEASE do not have sex while they are in the room, even if they are asleep. It's just not fair and puts them in a super awkward position.

Try Not To Be Loud

Your roommate might be trying to sleep in the other room, or maybe they have a huge test to study for. Try to respect that and keep the noise to a minnimum. If you can, put on some music or background noise to drown out your sex sounds.

Communicate

The best thing you can do is to just be open with your roommate. Don't try to sneak a guy in at three in the morning, and don't bring people to your room without giving a warning first. The better your communication is, the easier it will be to get it on with no issues.

Try Not To Have Your Guest Overstay

Yes, having someone stay over is cool. But having someone stay over seven days in a row is...a lot. Be respectful of your roommates space. They did not choose for your sexual partner to live with you!

Okay, this is pretty obvious...but a lot of people forget. You might be tempted to hook up with your roommate since you spend so much time with them, but that can get super messy, especially if you guys end up not working out.
