12 Unique DIY Literary Couple Costumes To Wear This Year

Like a lot of people, I think, there are few things in this world that impress me more than a great, well-coordinated couple costume. You know, the kind of coordinated costume that makes you forget that you actually mostly hate couple costumes and completely disregard the fact that, one time, you accidentally sprained one of your eyeballs from rolling them so hard at a costume. In fact, this kind of costume will be so good that, by the time you have finished thinking about it, you will have convinced yourself that you must find a committed romantic partner so that you may create one of these costumes for yourself.

Basically, what I am saying is that, if you are dating someone, it is kind of your duty to wear an awesome Halloween costume with them this year. And a great place to start, if you aren’t quite sure which route to take, is from the ~written word~. AKA books. AKA famous literary couples, like Daisy and Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet, and Heathcliff and Catherine. I mean, sure, they might not be role models, but these costumes are a great option to wear with your boyfriend, girlfriend, or, quite frankly, your BFF. Check ’em out here:

Alice And The Mad Hatter

This is a classic, instantly recognizable costume choice. And, as you can see here, it's pretty easy to make it seem modern and fun by adding some trendy accessories.

Matilda And Miss Trunchbull

Does this costume inspire you as much as it does me? I hope so! Anyway, this costume is amazing. I hope you and your lover wear it this year.

Romeo And Juliet

This is, like, "Romeo + Juliet," (you know, the Baz Luhrmann interpretation) but make them dead. I love it!

Daisy And Gatsby

I mean. Sure, they aren't the best role models for, like, a healthy relationship. But don't they look great together?

Where The Wild Things Are

This is a great couple costume because it's, you know, iconic (everyone knows about this book!), adorable, and, as you can see, comfy AF. There's literally no way to lose.

Waldo And Wenda

Did you know that Waldo' girlfriend is named "Wenda?" I did not know this until today! Anyway, it's a great costume to try out, especially if you're partial to striped t-shirts.

Harry Potter And His Patronus

This is a super-creative take on a "Harry Potter" couple costume that's super recognizable, but doesn't require you to dress up like Ginny Weasley. Win-win!

Ron And Hermione

Or, if you want to go with something a little more classic, you can try Ron and Hermione. Bonus points if you both wear dress robes.

Harley Quinn And Poison Ivy

These two come from comic books, so it totally counts as a literary-inspired costume, right? Of course right.

Mary Poppins And Bert

This is definitely an interpretation from the Mary Poppins movie, and not the actual book. All the same, it's a great costume. And, at the end of the day, what's the difference? Mary Poppins is Mary Poppins.

Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy

A pretty vital costume for any Austen lover, TBH. If you're feeling saucy, you can add some blood and gore to transform into the "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" edition. It's up to you!

Wendy And Peter Pan

Cute. Classic. Gender bend-able! It's a great costume, is what I am trying to say.
