Like most people (I assume), I am of the belief that, of the many things in the world that I deserve–fame, fortune, and the ability to have everything I might ever want, while exerting little to no effort myself –there is nothing I am deserving of quite as much as amazing, flawless skin. I long to live out each and every one of my days free of my usual concerns about blemishes, my oily T-zone, and flaky dry patches, and feel comforted in the knowledge that, no matter what, my skin will always do exactly what I want it to do.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. I have blemishes, an oily T-zone, and flaky dry patches, mainly because I am both lazy (and thus incapable of maintaining a rigorous seven-step Korean skincare regiment) and prone to activities that I know are damaging to my skin, such as picking and prodding and generally fondling it all day.
If this sounds like you (or an approximation of you, at least) you will be pleased to know that I have found something that works–skincare products that you put on at night and do the work for you while you are sleeping. So, check out some of our fave beauty products that are bound to give you ~flawless~ skin overnight. Obviously, you shouldn’t use all of them all at once–overloading on skincare products won’t actually help you all that much–but mixing and matching based on your skin’s needs should give you the kind of skin you deserve:
1. For acne — Kate Somerville EradiKate
Buy this for $26 from Kate Somerville
This is a super-potent spot treatment that uses the “highest level of Sulfur allowed” in order to clear up breakouts. Gurl Editor-in-Chief Jessica Booth says it’s the best spot treatment she’s ever used, and, since it’s so visible and potent (it leaves behind a very obvious pink mark until it gets washed off), it can pretty much only be used overnight.
2. For dull skin — Ole Henriksen Night Transformation Gel
Buy this for $48 from Ole Henriksen
This serum is technically for anti-aging, but people of all ages can benefit from it. This serum, which you put on before a moisturizer before going to bed, contains a powerful alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) complex that sloughs off dead skin cells to evens out the skin tone, smooth its texture, and give it an overall brighter look.
3. For dry skin — Tree Hut Hydrating Overnight Mask
Buy this for $14.99 from Ulta
This is basically a super-thick (“thicc,” if you will) that helps surge hydration into the skin without weighing it down or making it feel oily. Plus, it contains chamomile, which can help reduce any puffiness and inflammation in the skin.
4. For damaged skin — Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Nightly Re.Pair Mask
Buy this for $48 from Sephora
If your skin is red, blotchy, a little acne-prone, and basically just stressed out, you need to try out this mask form Dr. Jart. Its main ingredient is an herb called cantella asiatica, which has been proven to soothe redness, irritation, and aid in skin recovery.
5. For oily skin — Sephora Green Tea Sleeping Mask
Buy this for $4 from Sephora
If your skin gets a little oily overnight, try out this green tea mask from Sephora, which helps to mattify the skin without totally dehydrating it.
6. For combination skin — GLAMGLOW DREAMDUO Overnight Transforming Treatment
Buy this for $59 from Sephora
This GLAMGLOW mask is a perfect multi-tasker–it has two components, a serum and a moisturizer that help to even out the skin tone and give it a boost of moisture, making it perfect for anyone with combination skin.
7. For sensitive skin — TULA Overnight Skin Rescue Treatment
Buy this for $85 from TULA
This is a super-hydrating overnight mask that’s perfect for sensitive skin, since it’s free of sulfates and chemicals that could irritate the skin. Plus, it contains probiotics, which can help protect the skin from free-radicals and excessive redness.
8. For rough skin — Herbivore Moon Fruit Superfruit Night Treatment
Buy this for $58 from Sephora
If your skin isn’t quite as silky-soft as you would like, try out this overnight mask from Herbivore. It contains a bunch of all-natural ingredients that can help you combat dullness, uneven skin texture, dryness, and will leave your skin as soft as a baby’s. Or softer! Plus, it smells really good, so it’ll be fun to put on your face.
9. For puffy eyes — ITCosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Cream
Buy this for $48 from ITCosmetics
I’ve always been a little skeptical of under-eye creams–most of them are just marked-up face moisturizers–but this under-eye cream from ITCosmetics is kind of the real deal. When I put it on before bed, my eyes look noticeably more awake the next day.
10. For dehydrated skin — Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
Buy this for $25 from Sephora
This overnight mask is a great way to re-hydrate dry skin without making things too complicated. It helps fight dullness and dryness, and absorbs quickly into the skin so you don’t wake up with a greasy mark left on the pillow.
11. For dry lips — BITE BEAUTY Agave Lip Mask
Buy this for $26 from Sephora
Don’t forget your lips! This lip mask from Bite might be a bit, um, extra (could you just use regular lip balm? Perhaps! But that is beside the point), but it will help you wake up with smooth, flake-free lips. For bonus hydration, put it on right after exfoliating your lips. (Which is also extra. But whatever.)
