7 Important Beauty Routines To Start Before You Turn 18

Recently, while talking to my stepmom, she informed me that I am getting old. I mean, yes, it was my birthday, so the topic was already on the table, but I’m still in my twenties!! I’m not THAT old, I watch Riverdale! I still feel like a teen sometimes! Don’t judge me! But, according to the ~beauty~ industry, there are some things that I should have started a long time ago when it comes to my skin and beauty routine. And I wish that SOMEBODY would have told me this!

Sure, you don’t need to get botox at age 17 (please don’t!) but you should be prepping your face and skin from a young age. Not only will it help you look good, but it will help you stay healthy and give you that good ~glow~. I know I always used to ignore the “wear sunscreen every day!” rule but honestly, it’s super effing important. I know it seems silly to do these things now, but the earlier you start them, the more you can stick to your routine, and the better your skin will look in the long run. Trust me! I hate to say that my stepmom was right to call me out (on my BIRTHDAY of all days) but she WAS right. Here are some beauty routines you should start before you turn 18:

Wear Sunscreen Every Day

This is so important and I wish that I had taken it more seriously when I was younger! You really need to protect your skin from the harsh UV rays. I know that you think it's not important when it's not summer, but the sun is just as strong in the winter, and it can actually be more harmful when it reflects off off snow! Try applying makeup products with SPF so that you can protect your skin year-round.

CC Cream with SPF 50, $38, It Cosmetics

Try An Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream

I know you aren't thinking about wrinkles right now, but you will get them later in life (sorry!) and it's a good idea to prep for that. There is nothing wrong with wrinkles, but if you want to keep your ~youthful skin~ try using products that are anti-wrinkle. They will help keep your skin pretty forever! Sort of.

EyeRenew Conceal and De-Age Treatment, $54, Pevonia

Wash Your Face Every Night

NO excuses! You need to wash your face every night, even if you didn't wear makeup that day! All of the dirt and oil and nasty things in the air can clog your pores and make you break out. The best thing you can do for your skin is wash it every night before bed to get that stuff off.

Rainforest Of The Sea Cleansing Gel, $25, Tarte

Try A Face Mask That Works For You

There are literally thousands of face masks out there, and you should try a couple out out to see what's right for you. If you are prone to blackheads, try one that is made for that. There are so many out there that are meant to help your skin and face, you might as well take advantage!

Luminizing Black Mask, $34, Boscia

Give Your Hair Some Love, Too

I know that I started damaging my hair at a really young age, and it's really hard to come back from that. Try using a hair mask that can help repair or protect your hair from any damage that might come from heat or styling.

Biolage R.A.W. Re-Hab Mask, $30, Ulta

Don't Forget To Exfoliate

This is something that not many people think about, and can be often overlooked. But exfoliating is pretty important. I myself am guilty of skipping out on it, but it is really good to start now. In your late teens and early 20's, your skin is making a lot of new cells, and if you exfoliate, it will help give you that young and pretty glow. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be glowing for the rest of your life!

Tree Hut Polishing Facial Scrub, $9.99, Ulta

Sleep!

We all love sleep, but your skin loves it the most. Giving your body rest is the best thing you can do for your body, and especially your skin. So, yeah, beauty rest is a real thing, so don't be afraid to sleep in a little longer.
