Like any good millennial who has a fear of attachment and a debilitating phobia of the void that is the universe, recently, I have begun to devote all of my nervous, aimless energy towards exactly two things: a crushing potted plant addiction and skincare. The potted plant thing feels too sensitive to discuss right now, so, instead, I will just talk about skincare. And, you know what? There is quite a lot to say about it!
And, because I am fairly lazy, my favorite skincare products are often of the overnight variety. You know, the type you can slap on before bed, go to sleep, and wake up with a (presumably) refreshed, glowing face. The only problem is that I never really know which product to go with. Many brands claim to do many things, but it’s expensive to try and figure out which of the brands to go with. The solution? Make ’em yourself! This way, you can figure out exactly what works for you without having to to buy a ton of new products. So, check out these totally DIY overnight face treatments that will help you get the soft, glowing skin of your dreams:
1. Hydrating honey face mask:
If your skin gets dry as the weather gets cooler, this can zap a lot of potential glowiness from your skin. Rectify that with this ultra-hydrating avocado, vitamin E, and honey mask that you can wear overnight.
2. Overnight acne sheet mask:
If your skin is more acne-prone, you can try using this overnight mask that gets covered with plastic wrap (with breathing and eye holes cut out of it, obviously) to help it set in.
3. Plastic-free acne mask:
Feel weird about putting plastic wrap on your face? If so, try this one that relies on essential oils to help purify the skin. This is also a great option if your skin tends to be a little dry, since the oils won’t sap moisture from the face.
4. Green tea and potato juice mask:
The ingredients in this list might seem, um, odd, but it really works! The green tea helps to reduce inflammation and the potato juice actually helps to detoxify skin. Plus, it’s super simple to put together. Give it a shot!
5. Rose water and aloe mask:
This is a great mask to try as the weather gets slightly cooler, since it tones and hydrates the skin without weighing it down.
6. Witch hazel spray:
Maybe face masks just…aren’t your thing. If so, try out this watch hazel spray–all you have to do is spray it on before going to bed, and you’ll wake up with a refreshed, balanced face.
7. Coconut water mist:
This is another great mist if your skin tends to be a little drier–if you spray this on before going to bed, your skin will help your skin get hydrated and feel much softer.
8. Activated charcoal and witch hazel mask:
Is your skin in need of some serious detox? If so, try out this overnight witch hazel and activated charcoal mask, which will help to extract impurities. Just make sure you put a towel over your pillow when you use it (no need to stain your sheets black, unless you’re into that kind of thing) and try not to use it too often, since it can be harsh on your skin.
9. Lemon juice and almond oil:
Another great overnight mask idea is this one, which uses lemon juice and almond oil–the lemon juice helps to brighten the skin, while the almond oil helps to dilute it and make the lemon less harsh.
10. DIY facial serum:
If you’re into facial serums, you should try making your own–this is a great one to put on under a moisturizer at night to wake up with soft, glowing skin.
11. Green tea and basil mask:
This is a great anti-acne mask, since the combination of green tea and basil acts as an astringent without being too harsh.
12. Tomato and honey mask:
If your skin needs a little pick-me-up, this is a great way to do it–just mix a bit of honey with a slice or two of tomato and spread the paste evenly over your face. Rinse it off in the morning, and you’ll be all set to have a nice, glow-y day!
13. Any of these masks:
Basically? You have a lot of options. Get going!
