When the seasons change–as they often tend to do–chances are good that skincare, and how it might change for you from season to season, is the last thing on your mind. Like, at this point, you’re surely thinking more about your Halloween costume, or your fall wardrobe, or all the TV shows you’re going to binge in the next couple of months.
But, if you think about it, “skincare” and “seasonal transitions” aren’t as big non-sequitur as they might originally appear. Like, think about it–in the summer, you probably want skincare products that are light and airy and won’t contribute to the sweat and oil that tends to accumulate on most people’s faces over the summer. Likewise, in the winter, you probably crave thicker, more nourishing products that smooth over the dry spots and bumps on your skin. But what do you do in between seasons? It’s simple! Just switch up your products a bit. Check out the best transitional season skincare products right here:
1. La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum With Sunscreen
Buy this for $42.50 from Ulta
Just because the weather is getting cooler, this doesn’t mean that you can forgo sunscreen–try out this lightweight serum that protects your skin from the sun, plus whateer pollutants you come into contact with during the day.
2. ITcosmetics Confidence In A Cleanser
Buy this for $28 from ITcosmetics
I love this cleanser from ITcosmetics because it removes makeup entirely (seriously, you don’t need any makeup wipes or remover beforehand) without stripping the skin of moisture and giving it that tight, dry feeling that can come from some cleansers.
3. Fresh Rose Mask
Buy this for $25 from Sephora
This face mask has a lot of loyal disciples–with good reason. It offers up a rare combination of toning and hydration, leaving the skin feeling moisturized without feeling overloaded. This makes it the perfect summer-to-fall mask.
4. Dr. Jart Rubberizing Mask
Buy this for $12 from Sephora
If you want a face mask that’s a little more…dramatic, this one from Dr. Jart should do the trick. It’s brightening, so it’ll help you deal with any dullness or unevenness that might accumulate on your face in the fall, but it won’t strip it of moisture, either. (Plus, the rubberizing effect is perfect for Halloween, right?)
5. St. Tropez Gradual Tan
Buy this for $20 from Sephora
Not ready to let go of your summer tan quite yet? You don’t have to. Just use this tanning moisturizer from St. Tropez, which helps you maintain a subtle, believable glow so you can prolong whatever tan you managed to get over the summer.
6. KINDri Face Oil
Buy this for $45 from KINDri
I got this face oil from my Love Goodly subscription box and was pleasantly surprised by how light and airy it felt, while also helping to moisturize my skin. mPlus, the oil helps give the face a natural glow, so it’s a good thing to throw on if you don’t feel like wearing makeup one day.
7. Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment
Buy this for $5.68 from Amazon
When it comes to spot treatment, it’s best to keep it simple. I like Clean & Clear’s spot cream, but pretty much any salicylic acid spot treatment should work.
8. May Coop Raw Sauce
Buy this for $14 from Sephora
Are you using an essence? If not, the fall is a great time to start. If you apply it after cleansing, it helps hydrate and nourish the skin, as well as making it easier for your other skincare products to absorb into the skin.
9. Neutrogena HrydroBoost Cleanser
Buy this for $8.99 from Neutrogena
Recently, I’ve become obsessed with this simple cleanser from Neutrogena that helps remove makeup and impurities without stripping the skin. It’s no BS! I love it.
10. Shea Terra Rose Hips Black Soap
Buy this for $18 from Shea Terra Organics
Exfoliating in the colder months can be a tough necessity, since the skin tends to be dryer, flakier, and more sensitive. This is why I love this face wash from Shea Terra–it’s not as harsh as a lot of scrubs can be, but it’ll definitely help your pores feel clearer after using it.
11. Volition Oceanene Youth-Boost Gel
Buy this for $50 from Sephora
This moisturizer has marine algae in it, which helps it soothe any irritation on the skin while staying lightweight. It’s marketed as an anti-aging cream, but don’t let that put you off–if you have skin that tends to be fussy in the gall and winter, it’s a great option. (And, hey, maybe you can share it with your mom?)
12. Dr. Jart Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment
Buy this for $52 from Sephora
If you don’t feel like putting on foundation, but feel like your skin needs a boost, this is a great option. It helps protect the skin, while soothing and helping to soften any redness that might be on your skin. Plus, it has a good amount of SPF to help stave off sun damage.
13. Micellar Water
Buy this for $8.99 from Ulta
Not to brag, but I tend to get night sweats no matter what season it is. Because of this, I like to use micellar water first thing in the morning, which helps cleanse the skin without stripping it of any moisture.
