7 Weird Things That Will Happen When You Have A Roommate

I have had my fair share of annoying roommates. My freshmen year of college, my roommates would stay up watching reality TV until five in the morning every day.  They were both friends before I had met them, so I never challenged it since it was always two against one. I survived and we left on good terms, but I understand what it’s like to have a bad roommate. There are a ton of things that can happen when you and another person (or group of people) are confined to a tiny room. A lot of those things will be weird.

For instance, my roommate was really interested in dead bodies and would pretend to play dead sometimes. I don’t know, guys. It just happened. There are some normal things that will happen when you move in with someone, and then there are the REALLY weird things that will happen. And, TBH, those weird things can be common. In fact, they might have happened to people before, like these people on Reddit. I’m not saying that these things will definitely happen to you, but here are some weird things that MIGHT happen when you have a roommate.

They Might Have Weird Habits

You know how you have weird and random habits that you are so used to? Your roommate might have those. And they mightbe REALLY annoying, like keeping you up at night. Chlowoah said, "my cousin had a roommate her freshman year of college that had to listen to Harry Potter book one on tape every single night to fall asleep. My cousin bought her headphones but she refused to wear them because they 'hurt her ears' she would play it on a portable speaker loud enough to keep my cousin awake all night. The worst part... she wouldn't even start the tape where she left off the previous night, she would play the beginning every night over and over again. It gets worse, turns out the roommate wasn't even a fan of the series, had never watched any of the movies or read the other books, didn't know any characters, and as far as my cousin knows she never even finished the first book because she'd fall asleep every time she started it" That sounds HORRIBLE!

They Can Be Passive Aggressive

This happens when you live with anyone, but it happens a LOT in college. Not_homestuck has a story about roommates who NEVER did the dishes. Honestly, it's really common. " They were too passive-aggressive to actually talk other about it, so they just let [the dishes] sit in the sink for three days until somebody cracked and did them as 'punishment.' It was absurd. You're a twenty year old woman and you can't talk to your roommates about some dishes?" Please, just be open and honest with your roommates!

They Might Drink A Lot

When you go to college, you have to understand that people drink, since that's sort of what college is. At the same time, you might end up with someone who drinks a little TOO much, which can suck. As reasonanmadness said, "I had a few roommates when I was living in the dorms my freshman year in college.. They were good people all in all and we had some good times but as with just about every college experience for most of us, there was one guy who liked to drink, a lot." Don't follow their bad habits, okay?

They Might Do Weird Things In Their Sleep

This is something that not many people think about: sleeping habits. Some people do some weird stuff in their sleep, which makes it hard to live with them. This Reddit user is the one who does weird things in her sleep. Fuckmeidk_1 said," I talk in my sleep. Not full sentences or anything but enough for my roommate to hear a word or two every hour or so that she was still awake in our room. Idk how many times this happened but it was often enough to freak my roommate out, but I would sit up in bed. But how is this horrifying you ask? I would sit up in bed, turn my head, stare at her with my eyes so dilated that they looked black, and growl/make scary noises/sleep talk/was most likely snoring along with muttering the occasional word. THAT'S how I was the horrifying roommate."

They Might Smell

This is the worst, since there isn't a lot you can do, besides tell your roommate to shower, which can make things pretty awkward. Redbarnblue said, "Freshman year of college I got stuck with a smelly, anti-social dude." It's a small thing, but it can be awful when you live with someone who smells. If this happens to you, be sure to speak up. It's your room too!

They Might Make Dangerous Mistakes

You'd be surprised how common it is for roommates to leave on the stove or the iron. Username_errors said, "I came home after work one morning to smoke barreling out of my oven. My Roommate left a pizza cooking all night while passed out. He lived through the smoke but everything I owned including all my furniture and property wreaked of putrid smoke for 3 weeks." This is dangerous! Always be sure to check on the hot stuff before you go to bed!

Gross Things Might Just...Happen

Sometimes, gross thing just happen, like you find an unused bad on the floor, or old food sitting in the trash for too long. Sometimes, REALLY gross things happen, like your roommate's dog finding a used condom in the garbage. Ladyjane said, "My old roommate was dating a good friend of mine. One day, after her spending the night, the went out for lunch. His dog came out of his room with a tissue in her mouth, I stopped her, grabbed it and went to throw it out when my hand felt really wet. It was a condom, fully loaded, and when I grabbed it I guess I squeezed it because my hand was now covered in my roommates cum." YIKES!!!!!
