If you choose to remove some of (or all of) your body hair, then you know that it’s an incredibly annoying process. Waxing and laser hair removal might be faster and offer longer lasting results, but they’re also super expensive, so they’re not affordable for everyone. That’s why most people opt for shaving. It might be time consuming and frustrating, but it’s cheap and easy to do on your own. And at this point in time, at-home body hair removal isn’t even as bad as it used to be, mostly thanks to all of the hair removal products on the market that make things so much easier.
Sure, you could just stick to an inexpensive disposable razor and a bottle of old shaving cream, but honestly? You’re better off throwing in a few more bucks and getting some more products that will give you a better and longer lasting shave. In the end, it’s more bang for your buck. Also, these products aren’t as unnecessary as they might seem – they can help prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn and keep your skin smoother and healthier. After all, when you’re removing your own hair, whether it’s on your legs, under your arms, or on your face, you have to think about your skin and not just getting rid of that peach fuzz. I’ve tried a ton of different hair removal products out there, and at this point in my life, I’ve got more than a few favorites. Here are some of my top picks for body hair products that will make shaving a whole lot easier:
1. Busy Beauty Showerless Shave Gel
Shaving in the shower is usually your best bet – the exposure to warm water allows your cuticles to open and gives you a closer shave that is less likely to result in cuts – but it’s not always possible. If you’re running late and want to shave, you might find yourself dry shaving, which is, uh, a terrible idea. It’s painful and doesn’t look good. Enter Busy Beauty Showerless Shave Gel. It doesn’t require water, meaning it’s fast and perfect for those last-minute “oh shit I forgot to shave” moments.
Busy Beauty Showerless Shave Gel, $9.97, Busy Beauty
2. Gillette Venus Swirl Razor
In order to shave, you have to have a good razor, obviously. It’s just that… a lot of people end up buying cheap, crappy razors, and then wonder why they have nicks all over. One of my favorite razors is the Gillette Venus Swirl razor. It has a swivel that allows the head to move easily no matter where you’re shaving, making it flexible and great for tough spots. The five blades give you an incredibly close shave, too.
Gillette Venus Swirl Women’s Razor, $9.89, Target
3. Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub
If you’re not exfoliating before shaving, you’re doing it wrong. Seriously! This isn’t just an unnecessary marketing scheme. Exfoliating before shaving gets rid of the dead skin that accumulates, giving you a closer shave that will last longer and cutting down the risk of ingrown hairs. I personally really love Tree Hut’s Sugar Scrub. It scrubs away dead skin without feeling painful and it doesn’t leave a weird residue behind.
Tree Hut Bare Shave Prep Sugar Scrub, $9.99, Ulta
4. Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter 3-in-1 Creamy Body Wash
If you’re looking to save money in some way, get this 3-in-1 body wash from Soap & Glory. It acts as a cleansing body wash, a shave cream, and a moisturizer, all in one. It’s moisturizing and feels lovely, and it’s big enough to last a while, even if you’re using it for all three purposes.
Soap & Glory Righteous Butter 3-in-1 Creamy Body Wash, $14, Walgreens
5. Schick Intuition
Skip one whole step and product with Schick’s genius Intuition razor. It includes a moisturizing shave gel right around the blade so that all you need to do is add water. Some razor’s with built-in shave cream don’t have enough of it, and it hurts, but this one actually works. It also comes in fun and bright colors, which is just aesthetically pleasing.
Schick Intuition, $9.99, Target
6. My Skin and Co Cream
If you shave, then you know that sometimes, no matter what, you’re left with razor burn and ingrown hairs. Ouch. This cream from My Skin and Co is a great product to use on your skin after removing hair. It’s made of natural ingredients and moisturizes. It also helps treat any ingrown hairs or burning you might have.
My Skin and Co Treatment Cream, $30, Amazon
7. Gillette Venus with Olay Moisturizing Freesia Shower and Shave Cream
I am weirdly picky about my shaving cream. I don’t like anything with an overpowering smell, I hate when it’s super thick and hard to even cut through with your razor, and I hate when it gets too foamy and loose. This Gillette Venus shaving cream is the answer to all of my prayers – seriously. It lathers to just the right amount, it’s not too thick or thin, it leaves your skin feeling very moisturized, and it has a nice scent that isn’t too perfumey. I use it constantly!
Gillette Venus with Olay Moisturizing Freesia Shower and Shave Cream, $3.99, Target
8. Vita Liberata Super Fine Skin Polish Moisturizing Exfoliator
So, this Vita Liberata exfoliator is actually meant for tanning prep, but I love to use it before I shave. It works a little differently than other scrubs – instead of scrubbing it in and then rinsing off right away, you apply it, wait for the moisturizing cream to sink in (a few moments), and then wash the rest off in the shower. It’s incredibly moisturizing, which is why I love using it before I shave – it feels much nicer.
Vita Liberata Super Fine Skin Polish Moisturizing Exfoliator, $20, Neiman Marcus
9. Schick Quattro You Disposable Razors
A lot of disposable razors feel flimsy, like they don’t work very well. These don’t! They’re light and easy to use, and they have four blades instead of three, so they give a much closer shave. The fun part? The handles are scented.
Schick Quattro You Disposable Razors, $9.99, Target
10. Tree Hut Hair Minimizing Body Butter
One of the most important things to do after shaving is to moisturize – not only does it get rid of any dry skin, but it also can help prevent an itchy, burning feeling. This body butter is one of my favorites. It’s thick and creamy, but soaks right into skin so it doesn’t feel too heavy. It doesn’t have an overpowering smell. And it’s made with a botanical extract that helps minimize hair growth to extend your shave. I use it every time I shave my legs.
Tree Hut Hair Minimizing Body Butter, $9.99, Ulta
11. Gillette Venus Snap Razor
Shaving when traveling can be tough. You usually aren’t allowed to bring full-size razors on a plane, and shaving cream can be annoying to carry around. But I never go on vacation without a Venus Snap razor. These little guys are the perfect travel companion and fit comfortably in your hand. And the case makes everything so much easier!
Gillette Venus Snap, $7.99, Target
12. ShaveWorks The Cool Fix
I think we’ve already covered how obnoxious it is to deal with razor burn, cuts, and ingrown hairs. I seemed to always get a cut or a burning when I shaved before I started using this stuff. Put it on right after shaving, before moisturizer. It helps to heal any cuts or burning and prevents ingrown hairs. It stings a tiny bit, but it’s also weirdly refreshing.
ShaveWorks The Cool Fix, $26, Sephora
13. Dermaflash Facial Exfoliating Device
Have you ever thought about shaving your face? Same. All of that peach fuzz can drive you nuts once you notice it. Unfortunately, you can’t just take a regular old razor to your face because… that’s terrifying. If you want to get rid of facial hair, invest in this exfoliating device from Dermaflash. It’s an at-home facial hair removing kit that is surprisingly easy and not as intimidating as you would think. If you work carefully and gently, you won’t be left with cut up skin. It removes peach fuzz and leaves your face feeling incredibly soft. It’s expensive, but honestly? It’s kind of life changing.
Dermaflash Facial Exfoliating Device, $189, Nordstrom
If putting a blade to your face sounds beyond horrifying, then you might want to try the Finishing Touch Flawless. It removes facial hair and peach fuzz easily and fast, and the sleek packaging even includes a light so that you can see better. It’s cool looking enough that you can take it anywhere, and honestly? The price point is amazing.
Finishing Touch Flawless, $19.99, Finishing Touch Flawless
15. Bliss Spa Ingrown Hair Eliminating Pads
Want to protect freshly shaved skin from getting painful ingrown hairs? Simply swipe it with these easy to carry around pads. They work for any part of your body and they really do prevent ingrown hairs. They’re great to throw in your bag for emergency situations!
Bliss Ingrown Hair Eliminating Pads, $38, Ulta
16. mē Sleek At-Home Hair Removal Device
Maybe you read this post and thought, “Wow, wouldn’t it be nice if I never had to shave again?” If so, then you probably want to check out this new hair removal device. It’s an at-home treatment that, over time, removes hair with permanent results. It takes a few weeks – at least seven – and there is shaving or waxing prep involved, but after that time, you’ll find that you’re removing body hair a whole lot less, maybe even just doing monthly touch-ups. It can be used on large areas, like your legs, or smaller areas, like your face. It’s not cheap, but compared to laser hair removal, it’s definitely not as pricey.
mē Sleek At-Home Hair Removal Device, $299, Neiman Marcus
