I like to take care of my skin all year long, but I pay extra attention to it during the summer. This is because I spend a lot of time outdoors, at the beach, in the sun, in the salt water, in the chlorine… you name something that’s bad for skin, I’m probably doing it. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. The extra heat and sun might feel amazing, but it’s not doing your skin any favors – you already know how dangerous it can get, I’m sure (skin cancer is real, guys!). It’s fine to hang outside, but if you’re going to do that, you just need to give your skin a little extra love.
Luckily, there are a million skincare products out there that cover all of the bases, from sunscreen to moisturizers to soothers to masks and so much more. But how are you supposed to know what to buy? How are you supposed to know what’s actually worth your money and time? You can start here – I’ve checked out a bunch of new skincare products for this summer and collected some of my favorite to recommend. The extra time and money is worth it – your skin will thank you in a few years! Here are some of the best new skincare products for summer:
1. Kopari Coconut Melt
Coconut oil might not be as healthy to eat as we thought, but it’s definitely still great for your skin. Coconut oil is incredibly hydrating, which is perfect for dry summer skin – and this Coconut Melt takes it a step further. Keep your whole body happy with this dreamy concoction!
Kopari Coconut Melt, $38, Sephora
2. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Clear Spray Sunscreen
The most important skincare item for summer? Sunscreen. I’m a huge fan of Hawaiian Tropic, especially the spray sunscreen – it is so much easier and faster to apply. This one is clear, goes on evenly, has a great smell that isn’t overpowering, and doesn’t feel sticky or oily or icky at all.
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Clear Spray Sunscreen, $9.99, Target
3. StarSkin Exfoliating Double Layer Foot Mask Socks
Thanks to sandals and hanging in the sand, ocean, or chlorine, your feet will get kind of disgusting in the summer. Aside from regular pedicures, you should be using foot masks, which exfoliate and leave the skin feeling softer, more hydrated, and, uh, less smelly. I love these StarSkin masks because they’re easy to use and they feel very glamorous.
StarSkin Exfoliating Double Layer Foot Mask Socks, $10, Barney’s
4. Gillette Venus Moisturizing Shower Shave
If you choose to shave, then you need a great shaving gel. This new Shower Shave gel from Gillette Venus is one of my favorites. It lathers up so nicely, so you really don’t need a lot of it. It doesn’t have an overpowering sweet smell (I hate that), and it leaves my skin feeling soft and not dry and flakey.
Gillette Venus Moisturizing Shower Shave, $5.99, Ulta
5. Gillette Venus Swirl Razor
You will also need a great razor. I am ALSO a big, big fan of Gillette Venus razors, especially this new Swirl razor. It has five blades (five!) and a swivel blade that makes it so easy to get even the hard to reach spots, like your bikini line.
Gillette Venus Swirl Razor, $12.99, Target
6. Tarte Ready Set Radiant Skin Mist
I love to carry around a mist during the summer. Spritzing your face feels so refreshing and cool on a hot day! This new pick from Tarte won’t smudge your makeup, either – if anything, it will give it a little extra boost.
Tarte Ready Set Radiant Skin Mist, $25, Ulta
7. Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum
Sunday Riley is not a cheap brand, but sometimes skincare is really worth investing in! I’m a huge fan of their new C.E.O. serum. Vitamin C is amazing for your skin – one of the best ingredients you can use – and this serum has a lot of it. It will brighten up your skin and leave it feeling hydrated.
Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum, $85, Sephora
8. bliss Triple Oxygen Ultimate Protection UV Moisturizer
A good moisturizer is so important in the summer because your skin will be extra dry. And finding one with SPF is even better! I love this UV moisturizer from bliss. It includes SPF 33, but it doesn’t feel heavy on your face.
bliss Triple Oxygen Ultimate Protection UV Moisturizer, $46, Ulta
9. Alba Botanica Anti-Bug Spray
The worst thing about going outside in the summer is dealing with all of the bugs. Get yourself this Alba Botanica Anti-Bug spray (the green bottle above), which doesn’t include Deet, the ingredient in a lot of bug sprays that is really, really bad for you (it can cause cancer). It will help with the bugs, and the bottle is cute.
Alba Botanica Anti-Bug Spray, $10.29, VitaCoast
10. Milk Makeup Matcha Cleanser
I’m so obsessed with this stick cleanser. It’s great to take on the go, making it perfect for summer – sometimes you get really sweaty and need to wash your face while you’re out! It’s so much easier to carry around a little stick than a bottle of cleanser that could get all over the place. This Matcha Cleanser feels nice, helps with redness, and has an extremely light, almost non-existent scent.
Milk Makeup Matcha Cleanser, $26, Sephora
11. Jason Dry Spray Deodorant
Deodorant is a pretty obvious must-have for summer. I’m very into Jason’s Dry Spray Deodorant, which feels like it isn’t even there and is so easy to use. I like to take it with me on outings since it’s a little easier to apply than a stick of deodorant, and is great for freshening up. The fruity smells are also really nice!
Jason Dry Spray Deodorant, $8.87, VitaCoast
12. Nia Sunday Detox Whipped Clay Peel Off Mask
If there’s one thing I’ll never get enough of, it’s a good clay mask, especially one you can peel off because it’s incredibly satisfying. This NIA mask is so cool, because it’s foaming – it looks and feels different than your average cakey clay mask. It peels off, too, which is very fun and kind of gross? But ultimately awesome.
Nia Sunday Detox Whipped Clay Peel Off Mask, $36, Ulta
13. Too Cool For School Coconut Milky Mist
Like I said, I can’t get enough of mists in the summertime. One of my ultimate favorites is this Too Cool For School Coconut Milky Mist – I’ve been taking it everywhere! I love the tropical scent of coconut, and I love how this one makes my skin feel soft and refreshed even after a long day.
Too Cool For School Coconut Milky Mist, $14, Sephora
14. Amore Pacific Sun Protection Travel Collection
This Amore Pacific set is great whether you’re traveling or not – the price is awesome for these products. It includes a cushion foundation with SPF, Sun Protection Mist, and a Sun Protection Stick. They’re all in travel size and come in a cute clear bag as well.
Amore Pacific Sun Protection Travel Collection, $50, Sephora
15. Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Mineral Lotion Non-Greasy
Speaking of sunscreen, I’m obsessed with the design of the packaging for this Australian Gold sunscreen. It’s the nicest sunscreen packaging ever! Aside from that, it works really well, doesn’t feel greasy, and keeps you protected with an SPF of 50, the highest protection you can get (don’t be fooled by anything higher! It’s just a clever marketing scheme).
Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Mineral Lotion Non-Greasy, $14.99, Ulta
16. Busy Beauty Showerless Shave Gel
If you shave during the summer, but you’re also always really busy, you need to try this new shave gel from Busy Beauty. It doesn’t require water! You just squeeze some gel out, massage it in, wait 30 seconds, and then start shaving. It’s genius, a great time-saver, and especially great if you’re going away.
Busy Beauty Showerless Shave Gel, $9.97, Busy Beauty
17. Kat Burki Essential Radiance PH+ Enzyme Essence
If you aren’t already using an essence in your skincare routine, you should start ASAP. I use mine after toner and before serum as an extra hydrating step – so this is great for the summertime. I love, love, love this Kat Burki one, which feels light and lovely. I also love the minimalistic packaging, to be honest!
Kat Burki Essential Radiance PH+ Enzyme Essence, $100, Kat Burki
18. Pacifica Mineral Face Shade Coconut Probiotic Face Lotion
You obviously need sunscreen for your body, but you definitely need it for your face too. Grab this Pacifica Beauty face lotion. It has a great smell, absorbs quickly, and is water resistant for over an hour. It doesn’t hurt that the packaging is bright and fun!
Pacifica Mineral Face Shade Coconut Probiotic Face Lotion, $12.34, Target
19. Garnier SkinActive Clean+ Pore Purifying 2-in-1 Clay Cleanser
If you’re extra sweaty and oily in the summer, you might find that your pores feel larger. If that’s the case, try this Pore Purifying cleanser from Garnier (on the right). It feels so awesome on your skin, leaving it feeling super clean and a little bit tighter. I love using this especially around the time I get my period, since my skin gets so oily during that time of the month.
Garnier SkinActive Clean+ Pore Purifying 2-in-1 Clay Cleanser, $8.99, Ulta
20. Me Clear Anti-Blemish Device
A lot of women find that they break out more in the summer thanks to a combination of sweat, pore-clogging sunscreen, and sun exposure in general. This little device is kind of like having a dermatologist at home – it uses light, vibration, and warming to help make pimples disappear. And it’s really fun!
Me Clear Anti-Blemish Device, $39, Nordstrom
21. Tarte Glow With The Faux
If you love to be tan in the summer… I feel you. Unfortunately, being in the sun is so bad for you, so you might want to stick with self-tanner. I love Tarte’s self-tanner, which I feel like is so underrated. It gives a more natural looking glow and it lasts. This new one is a foaming self-tanner, and it feels super light and nice.
Tarte Glow With The Faux, $39, Tarte
22. Soap + Glory The Righteous Butter Creamy Body Wash
Soap + Glory is one of my favorite brands because everything I use from them is SO incredibly hydrating. This body wash doubles as an in-shower moisturizer, a cleanser for your skin, and can also be used as shaving cream. It’s great to have, especially if you’re traveling.
Soap + Glory The Righteous Butter Creamy Body Wash, $14, Soap + Glory
23. Coola Unscented Sunscreen Spray
Want a sunscreen spray that really, really protects you? Get this Coola spray with an SPF of 50. It stays on, it doesn’t smell bad, it doesn’t feel sticky, and it’s truly great for you.
Coola Unscented Sunscreen Spray, $36, Anthropologie
24. Kat Burki Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream
Seriously, you can’t go wrong with Vitamin C face products! I’m in love with this face cream from Kat Burki. It’s so moisturizing, and thanks to the Vitamin C component, it’s really brightening and makes your skin glow. It has a hefty price tag, but if you want to invest in your skin, this is a product to do that with.
Kat Burki Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream, $100, Kat Burki
25. Lavido Nurturing Hand Cream
I can’t live without hand cream and bring it with me literally everywhere I go, especially the beach. Right now, I’m loving Lavido’s Nurturing Hand Cream, which feels luxuriously moisturizing without being too heavy or sweet-smelling.
Lavido Nurturing Hand Cream, $14, Lavido
26. Hint Sunscreen Spray
You’re probably familiar with Hint water, and if so, then you’ll love their latest launch: sunscreen! Hint created these really great sunscreen sprays that are surprisingly awesome. If you prefer a sweet, fruity smell over that classic sunscreen smell, then you’re in luck – my personal favorite is the pear.
Hint Sunscreen Spray, $24, Hint
27. Palmer’s Coconut Oil Cleansing Balm
One of my current obsessions is a cleansing balm – they feel very moisturizing and they wipe off all of your makeup in one easy shot. I love this Palmer’s Coconut Oil cleansing balm, which removes everything and smells great (it’s pictured in the middle). It’s also an amazing price point!
Palmer’s Coconut Oil Cleansing Balm, $6.98, Walmart
28. Pevonia Body Renew Bubble Bath
It might be hot out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax in a nice bath! Pevonia makes this lovely bubble bath, which smells so good and will leave you feeling like a goddess. Say goodbye to bath bombs! Oh, and also, some of Pevonia’s products come with little seeds you can plant at home, which is just super fun and creative.
Pevonia Body Renew Bubble Bath, $18, Pevonia
29. Skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense Salicylic Acid Treatment
Whether you’re trying to prevent signs of aging or you’re fighting some acne, this salicylic acid treatment from SkinCeuticals is a lifesaver. It’s not cheap, but it really, really works. I use this as often as possible to keep my skin healthy and prevent any aging, which gets worse when spending a lot of time in the sun.
Skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense Salicylic Acid Treatment, $90, Dermstore
30. StarSkin Hydrating Bio-Cellulose Second Skin Face Mask
Sheet masks are great in the summer because they’re incredibly hydrating. Your best bet is to pick one that’s meant to hydrate even more, like this StarSkin option. It fits so well, and it makes your skin feel incredibly dreamy.
StarSkin Hydrating Bio-Cellulose Second Skin Face Mask, $10, Barney’s
31. Tarte Clean Queen Vegan Deodorant
I’m really picky about deodorant, so I was very hesitant about this Tarte vegan deodorant (pictured left above). But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it works, and it works well. It doesn’t have an overpowering smell at all, which is important to me, and tbh, I love the bright packaging.
Tarte Clean Queen Vegan Deodorant, $14, Sephora
32. ThisWorks Perfect Legs Skin Miracle
If you’re showing off your legs and want to give them a little boost, reach for this stuff. It does three things: it hides imperfections and uneven skin tones, brightens thanks to Vitamin C, and gives a soft bronze glow. It’s really amazing at helping your skin look even more awesome than it is, and bonus: it doesn’t rub off all over everything that like some self-tanners do.
ThisWorks Perfect Legs Skin Miracle, $68, ThisWorks
33. Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub Coconut Lime
One super important step in staying moisturized this summer is exfoliating the dead skin away. Try something like this scrub from Tree Hut, which smells summery and tropical, and leaves your skin feeling amazing. It’s not too harsh, so it won’t leave your skin feeling raw.
Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub Coconut Lime, $7.99, Ulta
34. WEI Mask Magic
Love sheet masks? Then get your hands on WEI’s Mask Magic. It includes four of their best sheet masks for your best skin ever, keeping it ultra hydrated and glowy.
