Minions, if you haven’t noticed, are just about everywhere these days. This isn’t really anything new, of course. Ever since the release of the first Despicable Me movie in 2010, minions have been lurking everywhere from banana peels to Rice Krispies Treats to the Facebook wall of every elderly relative you have. But, with the build-up to the release of Despicable Me 3, minions content has intensified to the point in which it seems that minion culture and American culture are irretrievably intertwined, whether you like it or not.
Despite their omnipresence, minions are a notoriously divisive subject–perhaps no more so than among the team here at Gurl dot com. By this, I mean that I will often send a minions meme in the group chat I have with my coworkers with a kind, thought-out note like “Need me a freak like this” and all they ever say is “Stop” or “I am going to report you to HR if you don’t cut this out” or, simply, no response at all, which, quite frankly, I find to be incredibly rude. I do not share these memes because I like them (most minions memes are genuinely awful, as I am sure you are already aware), but rather because they cause me great physical and psychological pain, and sharing them is the only way I know how to mitigate this pain for myself.
Anyway, since Despicable Me 3–a movie that the New York Times referred to as a “franchise running on fumes”–is coming out today, and none of my coworkers will respond to the memes I’ve been sending them over the past couple of weeks, I figured I would share them with you, my dear readers. So, check out these minions memes that, no matter how you feel about minion culture, will probably make you want to die:
