One of the things that a lot of us seem to constantly ask ourselves is: “Is my body normal?” I don’t know about you, but it’s probably something that crosses my mind a couple of times a week, especially when I’m in the shower or staring at myself in a full length mirror. And one body part we seem to focus on in particular is our vaginas.
This is due in large part, probably, to the fact that most of us don’t really compare vaginas with other people, which means that when you think about your own body, it’s easy to convince yourself that what’s going on with it is…not normal. Whether we’re inspecting pubic hair, the color, labia, vulva, or that random bump over there, the question that frequently goes through our minds is, “Am I normal?!” I’m here to tell you that you definitely are. Vaginas might obviously share certain characteristics, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to be all called vaginas, but everyone is unique. To prove my point, have a look at the nine ways all vaginas are different.
The Color Of ItObviously vaginas are going to be different colors because of our different skin tones, but there can be color variations among people with very similar skin tones. Some vags can be more pink while others can be more brown or purple. And you might notice that different parts of your vagina are different colors. Image source: iStock
How Much Pubic Hair You HaveObviously this doesn't count for people who love their Brazilians. If we're looking at vaginas in their natural state, you will find that some just seem to have a light dusting of hair while others have a thick, bountiful supply. Then there are those who fall in the middle. And the placement can also vary. Some hair is focused on the vulva while others seem to have hair just south of the bellybutton down to their thighs. The Size And Shape Of Your LabiaLabia are all different. And chances are your labia aren't perfectly symmetrical, either. Some people have long ones; others have short ones that aren't that visible. Some are fat while others are thin. There are so many different shapes and I can say that no matter what shape yours are, they are almost definitely normal. Image source: iStock
The Color Of Your Pubic HairPubic hair is like the hair on our heads, it can vary greatly. Some can be dark blonde, some can be blackest black, and some can be red. And of course there are countless other shades in between all of those. Image source: iStock
How Heavy Your Period IsAre you one of those girls who has a majorly heavy flow? There are others who have lighter periods. Then there are people who have periods that last a few days. But then there are those who have periods that can last over a week. And of course we know things can change as we get older. Image source: iStock
The Smell Of ItYou might be so focused on the look of your vag that you don't realize this one. However, it's a big one. The smell of your vagina can obviously be impacted by health issues like STDs or yeast infections, but it can even change depending on your period, or by your lifestyle. Just like dudes, what you eat and what products you use down there can impact the smell. Image source: iStock
The Look Of Your ClitorisHave you ever actually spread your legs wide and looked at your clitoris? Or do you just go ahead and feel it for masturbating purposes? If you were to look at it, you would realize that there are slightly different shapes, sizes, and colors to that *button.* You'd also realize that the size of your own clit can change depending on whether you're aroused or not. The Texture Of Your Pubic HairYou might have thought about the amount of hair down there or the color, but have you realized that the texture of pubes can vary from one person to another? Some pubic hair is very kinky while others you could classify as almost being straight. Then there are some that fall more into the wavy and curly categories. Image source: iStock
The Size And Shape Of Your VaginaYou can't really see this one, but you can take my word for it. Or maybe you have discovered it during sexy times with bae. Vaginas don't go on forever. There is a *wall* at the end and some people will have slightly shallower vags than others. Vaginas obviously expand and contract during sex and birth, but the general shape of them can vary.
