The Surprising Effect Masturbating Has On Your Skin

For decades, perhaps longer, people have been quick to assume that masturbating causes acne. The reasoning makes a LITTLE bit of sense: as your hormones rise, it can cause a spike in a particular hormone that causes oily skin, which can contribute to breakouts. Even though the theory makes a tiny bit of sense, it has never been scientifically proven, and there is, luckily, no true link between acne and masturbating. This was probably a rumor made up way back in the day when people thought that masturbating was the work of the devil – I’m just assuming. The point is, it’s not true. So, does masturbating affect your skin? And if so, how? Well, masturbating might actually be good for your skin. WHAT? I know. Read on.

Masturbating has a lot of physical side effects aside from making you feel amazing and boosting your sex life. Most of them are super beneficial to your body, and specifically to your skin. Not only do you get an ~after-orgasm glow~ (hence why NARS Orgasm blush is so popular), but you could also be helping your skin out big time. When you masturbate, your body can release oxytocin, which can help your stress levels and cortisol levels go down, and can reduce inflammation in your skin.

The release of oxytocin also helps increase blood flow, which can help your skin get that glow you’re looking for and also appear younger. Increasing blood flow also increases the amount of water that gets to your skin, which can help keep you looking energized and refreshed all over. And, if you know anything about skincare, you know that hydrated skin means less breakouts. Not only that, but masturbating can relieve stress, and we all know that stress is a big component when it comes to your zits. If you find yourself stressing and breaking out, you might want to try masturbating. You never know!

One more thing: you probably aren’t thinking about wrinkles at this point in your life (don’t! You don’t need to, you baby-faced beauty), but it’s worth pointing out that masturbating does help reduce the appearance of wrinkles in your skin. Masturbating can help your skin by flooding your body with melatonin, which is also what makes you sleepy AF after you get it on.

So, while there is no real, scientific proof of masturbating helping out your skin, a lot of factors point to the idea that everything that happens to your body when you masturbate can actually help keep your skin clear and pimple-free. I’m not saying that masturbating can completely replace your skincare regime, but it is just one of the good side effects of self-love.
