It’s happened to us all. You’re going about your day, enjoying your life, staying in your own damn lane, when, suddenly, you notice it–a zit. And not just any zit, either. This one is a bad zit, the kind you can’t just spackle over with some concealer and hope it goes away soon. It hurts. It’s noticeable. It’s a Tokyo-destroyer, if you will.
Sadly, there is no true foolproof, guaranteed method for getting rid of acne overnight. You can get rid of acne, of course, but any effective skincare regimen will take at least a few days (and, more likely, a few weeks or even months) to start actually working. Still, there are some things you can do before you go to bed that, if they don’t completely get rid of your pimple, will at least make it significantly diminished. So, check out these easy(ish) and foolproof(ish) hacks to make a zit go away overnight:
1. Wash off your makeup ASAP:
If you have a zit, you probably want to put concealer and foundation over it. That’s fine. But, as soon as you get home, wash it off. Even if you makeup is oil–free, it’s best not to have anything covering it so it can breathe.
2. Try a baking soda scrub:
Baking soda can potentially be irritating for your skin, so you’ll want to be careful with this one. But it can also be great for sloughing off dead skin, so, if you feel like there’s a lot of buildup on your face, it might be worth trying this scrub once a week.
3. Don’t pick it:
Hands + a zit = bad, bad things. Picking and popping zits feels satisfying, but it leads to irritation and inflammation, which can make the pimple look much worse.
4. Steam your skin:
Use steam or a warm compress to bring the pimple to a head. Once it’s there, don’t pop it–instead, apply spot cream directly to the zit. This helps the medicine be delivered to the spot more effectively.

If you have all-over acne–not just a few zits here and there–it might be worth it to try a facial mist. this one, which is made up of witch hazel and lavender essential oil, is gentle enough not to irritate the skin, but is still effective for drying out acne.
9. Or an apple cider vinegar toner:
Apple cider vinegar is great for clearing up acne and improving the overall tone and texture of the skin–just make sure you dilute it with some water. Otherwise, it’ll be too harsh for your skin.
10. Try an aspirin and honey mask:
The aspirin clears out acne while the honey nourishes the skin so it doesn’t become over-dried.
11. Or plain honey:
Using honey–specifically raw or Manuka honey–can help clear up acne, since it has a bunch of anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and swelling in the skin.
12. Look in your pantry:
If you don’t have one thing that can clear up acne, you’ll likely have something else. Try some different things and see what works for you!
