7 Ways To Survive As A Super Sweaty Girl

Confession: I’m a very sweaty girl. No, I don’t perspire, the term that some women (usually older) like to use to describe a sweating woman because apparently the word sweat is too grotesque. I… sweat. Sleeping under the covers makes me sweaty. Walking swiftly toward the subway makes me sweaty. Trying on clothes in a dressing room makes me sweaty. Anything that involves movement makes me sweaty, if I’m going to be honest.

I’m just speaking my truth here, and as gross as some (including myself) might find it, it’s a reality for a lot of people out there.  A really, really annoying reality. And it’s okay to admit that – you don’t need to act like everything your body does is wonderful, because it isn’t. Sweat isn’t just gross, it’s frustrating – it makes it hard to feel comfortable, especially in hot weather, and it can make fashion tough too. So, what’s a girl to do when she wants to make her sweating a little more manageable? She checks out these seven ways to survive as a sweaty girl, and she keeps it movin’.

Always Wear Cotton Underwear

If you're really sweaty, you KNOW you're not just sweaty under your armpits or along the small of your back. Yup, the vag area gets sweaty AF too, right? Then it's even more important for you to make sure you wear cotton underwear to prevent yeast infection. Yeast infections thrive in moist, warm environments, and if you get sweaty down there, it's prime real estate for some unfriendly bacteria to cause havoc.

Avoid Polyester, Acrylic, And Other Synthetic Fabrics

This is hard to avoid entirely, and trust me, I can't help but wear my favorite chiffon and polyester shirts every now and then. But these materials don't breathe, which is absolute hell if you're sweaty. Have you noticed how gross you feel when you sweat in synthetic fabric? Yeah, yuck. Avoid whenever you can, or at least make sure the material is roomy so you don't feel sweaty and confined.

Make Sure Your Deodorant Doesn't Suck

Hey, maybe that deodorant you've used since you were eleven that smells like cucumbers, cherry blossoms, and baby powder just isn't cutting it anymore. I know, switching up your deodorant can be intimidating, but you might just need something a little more extra strength. Check out products that have a "clinical strength" label, like Secret Clinical Strength or (my personal favorite) Mitchum Smart Solid

Carry A Little Towel With You

No, not some massive beach blanket or a towel you use after a shower. Something small like a washcloth that can fit into your purse or a hand towel that you can throw into your backpack. Whether you're running errands or working out at the gym, this will absolutely come in handy. If you're super self-conscious, try to use it when you sneak away to the bathroom. It sure beats relying on bits of crumbly toilet paper or fanning yourself underneath the automatic hand dryer.

Carry Around Blotting Papers

Your face probably sweats up a storm, right? Especially in warmer weather. Stop the sweat from smudging your makeup (or just feeling icky on your face) without looking like a total slob with some blotting papers. They're small, discreet, and disposable, so you can just blot away and forget about it.

If Your Problem Is Severe, Botox Can Help

Yes, this is a really intense move, but it's for those of you who are so unbelievably sweaty that it's actually having a negative impact on your everyday life. If you can swing it, you might want to consider getting botox injections into your armpits. They can help reduce the amount of sweat you produce for months at a time.

Don't Start Drinking Less Water To Prevent Sweating

If you sweat more than you're comfortable with, don't resort to drinking less water under the assumption that that'll prevent you from sweating. Yes, sweat can be incredibly annoying--this entire post addresses that!--but it's more important for you to stay hydrated than to prevent getting lil sweat marks on the armpits of your favorite top. At the end of the day, sweat is just the body's natural way of cooling itself, and you're going to have to deal with it. Don't harm the rest of your body just to look less greasy at the end of the day.
