10 Weird Things That Happen To You After You Have An Orgasm

The whole point of having an orgasm is to feel really, really good. Like, the greatest ever, hopefully. In fact, you are probably so focused on how good you feel after an orgasm that you don’t really focus on anything else that’s happening to you. Sure, you know that orgasms make you feel happy and exhilarated in this very zen-like, dead eyed type of way, but you don’t really think about the other things that are going on in your body, and even in your mind.

Now, will all of these things happen to you at once immediately after a sex session, while you’re laying in a sweaty cuddling position with your bae? Probably not. You might not even notice them, even after being made aware that they’re happening. Regardless, it’s just interesting stuff. Bodies are strange, man. So is sex, and so are orgasms when you really think about it. Anyway, let’s not get into a philosophical conversation about the meaning of everything, and let’s instead talk about the weird things that can happen to you after having an orgasm. Lay there, enjoy the happy vibes, and remember these next time.

You Want To Open Up Emotionally

Having an orgasm doesn't just change you physically, it can change you emotionally. A recent study found that the feeling of wanting to open up emotionally after sex with a partner is super common. Actually, the study found that even just seeing something sexual makes people want to be more vulnerable. This is, deep down, a mating thing. The study concluded that when your sexual system is activated, you're encouraged to open up to a partner, allowing you both to become closer. Bonding intimately in this way strengthens your relationship and leads to more sex.

So, if you're ever inspired to spill your life story after hooking up, you are not alone! This also means that after sex is probably a good time to bond with your partner so that you guys can get to know more about each other.

You Feel Less Pain

If something is bothering you, you might want to try having sex. Researchers have found that having an orgasm can most likely relieve pain - everything from arthritis to aches. This is most likely because having an orgasm releases oxytocin, which is responsible for all of the good feelings out there - relaxing, feeling happy, and, of course, feeling less pain.

You Feel Irritated

It's not all good for everyone, though. Orgasms can put some women in a bad mood. A study from 2011 explored this, finding that, for many women, orgasms mean feeling a lot of mood swings. The researchers found that feeling irritable after sex might be linked to emotional issues, a lack of trust, and a history of emotional and/or sexual abuse.

You Might Lose Hearing

So, uh, this is a thing: an orgasm might make you lose hearing for a minute. Women have reported trouble with hearing for a few moments after an orgasm, describing ringing in their ears or literally feeling deaf for a few minutes. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any scientific studies or research on the subject, although it is something that is more common than you might think.

You Cry

You know that stereotype about women crying after sex? Well, sometimes it's true. Studies have found that a lot of people can feel post sex blues - men included. Researchers aren't sure why it happens, but the irritability and anxiousness usually starts during sex. It could be linked to trauma in the past, but they aren't sure.

You Get Smarter

The next time you have a test, you might want to have an orgasm right before. Studies have found that orgasms increase blood flow, including increasing blood flow to the brain, which is a good thing. I mean, it's not, like, a foolproof study method, but it does get you thinking!

You Wonder What Your Partner Is Thinking About You

You know when you have sex, and then you lay there afterwards wondering exactly what your partner is thinking? Okay, well, that's not weird, and it's actually a proven thing. Research has found that women are more likely than men to wonder what is going through their partner's brain after sex.

Men Feel Manlier

Okay, so this isn't about you, per se, but it does affect you. Recently, a study discovered that one of the reasons men like when women have orgasms is because it makes them feel manlier. Well, that is, if you had an orgasm with the man, of course. This... totally makes sense. I mean, how do you feel when you give someone an orgasm? Pretty accomplished, I'm sure.

Your Stress Goes Away

You might have already heard, but in case you haven't: orgasms are great stress relievers. The release of oxytocin makes you feel relaxed, zen, and happy, and the stress you were feeling melts away... for a little while, at least. Ride that post-orgasm feeling as long as possible!

You Feel Tired

Feeling sleepy after sex isn't just a dude thing - it happens to women too. Studies have found that it's super common to want to take a nap after an orgasm. The release of neurochemicals and endorphins leave you feeling wiped out, relaxed, and happy - perfect for getting rid of insomnia!
