I don’t think it is a surprise to any of you that I am lazy AF, but I thought I would just remind you one more time: I am lazy. Which didn’t really bother me for most of my life, but now that I am becoming what people call “an adult,” I figured I should at least TRY to seem a little less like a walking mess, and more like a functioning human. So, I started to actually wake up on time and take care of myself. But, unfortunately, the lazy girl in me still exists in the form of outdated clothes and anti-trends. I’m sure you can relate.
I have nothing against trendy people, in fact, I wish I could be more like that. The truth is, I just don’t have the time (or money) to be the most fashionable girl alive every single day of my life. Sure, I will dress up when I go out with friends on a weekend, but that’s mostly just so I can take a killer Instagram and make myself seem more trendy than I actually am. On a day to day basis, all I want to do is wear leggings and a baggy t-shirt. But, like I said before, “adults” don’t do that, so I shouldn’t either. Luckily, there are some ways to update your look to help you seem less lazy and more trendy, without having to really work for it. Check out these easy ways to be trendy, even when you are a lazy bum like me. I FEEL YOU, GIRL. We are in this together.
1. Stick To Basic Trends
The main thing to do is to stick to your basics. Sure, buying trendy stuff will be cool for, like, one season, but in three years you are probably going to regret spending $300 on a one-shoulder dress that is out of style. Stick to things you know you can wear for the next few years without having to worry about being ~out of style~. Have some plain t-shirts and sweaters on hand so you can grab them and look casual but cute any time.
2. Have Your Go To Dress
When you’re trying to look fancy AF, the best thing to do is throw on a dress. The best kind of dress is one that is comfy but also chic, like a shift dress or a classic LBD. They never go out of style, and you can dress them up (or down) any way you’d like.
3. Own At Least One Good Pair Of Jeans
Okay, I have avoided buying a good pair of jeans for as long as I can remember, but, it is time. I know you want to wear $7 Forever 21 jeans for the rest of your life, but they probably won’t last, and you could be spending a lot more many that you would like to. Jeans will never go out of style, and they are comfy and simple, so you might as well invest some money into an actually good pair.
4. Don’t Buy “Out There” Trends
Yes, fishnets are cool right now, but they probably won’t be in a year (or a month, TBH). Don’t waste your time or money going out to buy some trends that will have us all saying “what was I thinking” in 2020.
5. Buy Clothes Out Of Season
Too lazy to buy bathing suits in the spring? I feel ya. Buy them at the end of bathing suit season, when they will be cheaper.
Remember that little black dress I was talking about? You can make it trendy by adding some easy accessories that will dress up your outfit in less than a minute, like a choker.
7. Try Cute Hair Styles
You don’t have to focus on the clothes! Try a cute hairstyle that will distract the world from your not-so-fabulous outfit. Here are some easy ways to make your hair look classy and chic without having to spend that much time on it.
8. Wear Heels
Want to look like a trendy badass in less than a minute? Wear some heels. The sound of your heels clicking down the hallway will make you seem powerful.
9. Wear Bold Lipstick
If all else fails: add lipstick. It is always on trend and you can never look bad in lipstick. If you don’t know how to wear it, check out these easy tips.
10. Stick To One Color Scheme
Do you have one color that looks good on you? Wear it as much as you can. Sticking to one color scheme will make you seem chic and stylish, whether is is a more neutral tone or pops of color.
11. Borrow Clothes
Have a trendy friend? Use them. Swap your clothes and try out your BFFs closet so you can wear trends without actually having to go out and buy them.
12. Buy One Trendy Outfit Piece/ Accessory
Okay, I know that I said not to buy crazy trends, but if you find a good one, you might as well jump on it. Pairing something that is “in” with a pair of jeans will make you seem super on top of the trends, even if you just threw on a t-shirt over your favorite jeans. Add a pin or patch (they are still in style, guys) to a plain shirt to be trendy.
13. Own A Good Bag
No matter what your outfit looks like, you won’t look good if you’re wearing an old bag. Invest in a stylish tote or backpack that will complete your outfit, no matter where you are going or what you are wearing. It really makes a difference!
14. And A Nice Pair Of Shoes Besides Your Heels
Yes, shoes are important, and they can really pull a look together. It’s actually easier to buy one nice pair to wear with everything than 50 different pairs to wear with each individual outfit. This way, you don’t have to spend all of your time in the morning picking out what shoes to wear.
15. Actually Wear Things You Like
If you hate red lipstick, don’t wear it. If you HATE black dresses, don’t wear them. It’s simple! No matter how trendy your outfit might be, you won’t feel trendy on the ~inside~ (corny, I know, stay with me) if you aren’t comfortable. Lazy girls NEED to be comfy all the time, and if being trendy means being uncomfortable, you should reconsider your options.
