When you think about the most ICONIC tv couples of all time, who do you think of? I, for one, think of Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts from the short-lived teen drama The OC, since their relationship was the definition of goals. But, did you know that they were not only the best couple in the show, but they were also together for real? I know. It’s amazing. Unfortunately, they broke up just before the show ended, but I tend to block that out of my memory.
As someone who loves to live vicariously through TV characters, I tend to get obsessed with their on and off-screen relationships. Is that weird? I don’t know. But you can imagine how annoyingly excited I get when I learn that those couples actually dated IRL. It happens a lot more often that you would think. Most of them don’t last (unfortunately) but their on-screen romances are forever immortalized. I know it can be easy to get swept up in fictional relationships, but there is something super satisfying when you learn that your favorite couple actually have real chemistry off-screen. Sometimes, it works out, and other times they break up and the entire show is ruined. Either way, you can relive the happy times by checking out some of your favorite TV couples who actually got together in real life.
Natalie Dyer And Charlie HeatonOkay, this isn't really proven, but there are rumors floating around that the Stranger Things "couple" are actually dating IRL. They are constantly seen together, which could just mean they are BFFs, or it could hint that their off-screen relationship is similar to their on-screen relationship, where Jonathan is obviously in love with Nancy. I mean...they witnessed some wild stuff together, so it makes sense if they get together on the show, right? You can watch season one on Netflix.
Rachel Bilson And Adam BrodyAs I mentioned before, if I think too much about Seth and Summer, I start getting really emotional, so I'm going to keep it short. Adam and Rachel met on the set of The OC, where they played their iconic couple, and dated for three years. They even owned a dog together. I'm obsessed. You can watch their love unfold on Hulu.
Blake Lively And Penn BadgleyThe Gossip Girl stars met on the set in 2007 where they started an on-again, off-again relationship both onscreen and off. SPOILER ALERT: Dan turned out to be the one and only Gossip Girl, and the couple split after three years. They still had to get "married" on the show though, which I'm sure was...interesting. You can watch the whole series on Netflix.
Alexis Bledel And Milo VentimigliaI think it's safe to say that many of us are #TEMJESS at this point, even after the Gilmore Girls revival aired in 2016. The on screen couple actually stayed together for four years while working on the show together, although they kept a relatively low profile while doing so. I still have hope that Jess and Rory will get back together...someday. You can watch the series (and the revival) on Netflix.
Katie Holmes And Joshua JacksonWay back when twentysomethings played teenagers (I mean they still do that, but whatever) Joey and Pacey on Dawson's Creek dated IRL...but it was before their characters had even gotten together on screen. That was probably awkward. You can watch the classic teen drama on Hulu.
Nina Dobrev And Ian SomerhalderEven though Nina's onscreen The Vampire Diaries character couldn't choose between Damon and Stefan, she dated Ian for almost three years. They have since broken up, but remained friends...even though she decided to leave the show. You can watch this show on Netflix.
Mila Kunis And Ashton KutcherAt least this story has a happy ending! Ashton and Mila played Kelso and Jackie on That 70's Show when they were teenagers, and remained close friends for years. Mila even revealed that Ashton was her first kiss and she had a huge crush on him. They eventually started dating IRL in 2012, and got married in 2015. You can watch Mila and Ashton in their early years on Netflix.
Sophia Bush And Chad Michael MurrayI am convinced this is the reason that Lucas and Brooke didn't end up together, and I am going to be upset about that for the rest of my life. Sophia and Chad met on the set of One Tree Hill and got married two years later...only to get divorced five months after that. In fact, fans believe that tension between Sophia and Chad was why he left the show in 2009. You can watch this show on Netflix.
