I know there are a lot of weird things that can happen when you’re having sex, but most of them are pretty harmless. Maybe you accidentally fart, or fall off of the bed or you queef and have no idea what’s going on. It happens! But, unfortunately, there are some pretty dangerous things that can happen when you’re having sex, and the worst part is that you might not realize you’re helping them happen. Specifically, dangerous condom mistakes that you are probably making every time you have sex.
I know you think you know all there is to know about condoms. I mean, you just put it on before you get it on and they prevent a baby from being born, right? Uh, it can be a little more complicated than that. I know in the heat of the moment, you will want to rush and get a condom on your bae ASAP, but you actually really need to make sure you’re focusing on what you’re doing, or the condom won’t be as effective, or even break. This stuff is super important to know, obviously, unless you want a kid. So, if you are planning on having sex with someone with a penis any time soon, please take a look at these dangerous condom mistakes you might be making!
Wearing Two CondomsA big NOPE! In theory, you'd think it would make sense to be extra cautious and wear two condoms, in case one breaks, but the friction can actually cause both condoms to break easily, which is not what you want when you're trying to get it on with your bae. You are good with one, don't try and overload on the condoms! Image Source: iStock
Using Flavored CondomsIf you want to use flavored condoms for oral sex, feel free! That's not a bad idea at all. However, those flavored condoms shouldn't be used during vaginal intercourse, since they contain sugars and artificial flavoring that could be harmful and cause infections in your vagina. Stick to using the flavored condoms for oral sex, only! Image Source: iStock
Ripping It Open With Your TeethI know you want to be ~sexy~ and rip the condom open with your teeth...but don't. In the moment, it might seem hot, but you could accidentally tear a hole in the condom, which means that you could be at risk for STDs and even pregnancy. Just open it very carefully, and be sure not to puncture the condom with your nails. Image Source: iStock
Using Expired CondomsI know it's silly to think that a little latex thing can break, but it can, especially if it's old! Condoms do have expiration dates, and you should really be paying attention to them. An older condom might dry out or be weak, which will make it break a lot more easily. As we all know, broken condoms are not good, since they can lead to pregnancy or STDs. Image Source: iStock
Using The Wrong Type Of LubeYou should always be using a water-based lube for two reasons: it's better on your vagina, and it is less likely to tear the condom. If you use oil-based lube, or vaseline, it will weaken the latex and could cause tears. It's not worth it! Image Source: iStock
Depending On The Guy To Bring OneEven if you don't expect to have sex, you should still carry one with you. It's the smart and safe thing to do, since you never know what kind of situation you will end up in. It's not "slutty" to carry condoms, it's super responsible! Image Source: iStock
Putting It On The Wrong WayThere is a wrong way to put on a condom! The condom should unroll easily when you're putting it on. If it doesn't then you are putting it on the wrong way. That's okay, but be sure to throw that one out instead of putting it on the other way. It could have gotten pre-cum on it, which can still put you at risk for pregnancy. Image Source: iStock
Not Using A Condom At AllPlease, make sure to use a condom during sex! A guy might tell you it "feels better" without out, but you will feel better without getting pregnant or catching an STD. Condoms are really important, and if your partner tried to get you to have sex without one, they are being shady and selfish AF. Image Source: iStock
