If you haven’t noticed, food can affect you in pretty weird ways. For one, certain foods should NEVER be used during sex. But, on the bright side, there are some foods that could make your vagina taste better, and even foods that are good for your skin. But what about foods that are bad for your skin? Or, more specifically, will make your skin super oily? It might not really be something you think about, and unfortunately, there are a lot of types of food that could be causing your oily skin and breakouts. And, even more unfortunately, they are most of your favorite foods. I know, it’s rough.
It’s important to know these things so that you can avoid certain foods if you want to have clear and non-greasy skin. Obviously, you can (and should!) eat whatever you want in moderation, as long as you are adequately taking care of yourself and your skin. If you find yourself waking up with greasy skin, it might be because of these certain foods you are eating. Check out these foods that might be causing your oily skin, so you can get to the bottom of your skin problems. And if you still find yourself getting oily, try these tips for clearing up your skin.
Red MeatRed meat can be super fattening, and we all know how an excess of fats isn't the best thing for your body. But it's also not the best for your skin, TBH. The saturated fat in red meat (like steak, beef, pork, etc) can lead to excessive oil in the skin. If you do choose to eat red meat, be sure to try to have some with little fat on it. PizzaI know how much we all love pizza, but there is no denying that it's not too great for you. It can actually do a lot of not-so-good stuff to your body, including causing breakouts and oily skin. Certain products used in pizza, like cheese and spices, can stimulate the sebaceous gland, AKA the part of your body that generates oil. So...not only is pizza super oily, it can also cause your skin to generate more oil. Image Source: iStock
FriesNot just fries, but fried foods as well. Studies have shown that consuming too many omega-6 fatty acids can cause a build up of oil in your skin, which can lead to everybody's favorite thing: acne. So, if you're trying to avoid breaking out, you might want to cut down on the oily foods, like fries, chips, and other greasy snacks. Image Source: iStock
PastaMy very large Italian family chooses to ignore this fact, but one study proved that not eating starchy foods like pasta can reduce acne. Obviously, it's just one study and that might not be true for every case, but highly glycemic foods can cause skin problems, like inflammation or oiliness. Image Source: iStock
CheeseUNFORTUNATELY, cheese and most dairy have been known to contain high levels of hormones, which could clog pores and, you guessed it, cause breakouts. It's the same with most dairy, like milk and yogurt. Image Source: iStock
ChocolateAnother classic snack food is also plotting to destroy your skin. Dark chocolate and cocoa isn't the worst for your skin, but milk chocolate and types with a lot of sugar promotes your oil glands to produce more oil all over your body. I mean, this won't stop me from eating chocolate...but it still stinks. Image Source: iStock
SodaObviously soda isn't a food, but it's still important to know. Soda is another product that has a high glycemic index, which can lead to simulate the release of insulin, which produces oil and clogs your pores. It also dehydrates you, and we all know how much skin hates being dehydrated, so you might want to stick to water next time you're breaking out. Image Source: iStock
